Nice start. I was never a fan of the cartoon HQ, but this makes me rethink that. There's lots of options for computer consoles out there. I know there was a thread here somewhere with some great cartoon designs. There's also Playmobil. I saw some really nice computer monitors with keyboards on eBay that would fit Joes nicely.
For my own PIT, I picked up an Enterprise bridge and a few figures for the computer consoles and chairs. They look like they'll work out perfectly.

Sounds awesome. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Good luck to you.

Not sure yet, for screens I was thinking about DVR news, weather and hitting pause on the TV. Taking a still and cutting and mounting the screens. I have gotten a lot from Marauder John over the past few years and will be getting more. I am always looking for things I can use in all the cool dios that have been posted. I also have purchased a ton of odds and ends from Home Depot that plan on surface mounting for plumbing conduit and other things. Thanks, I just drew a grid on the foam core and made a plan. Now that this mock up has been put together, I learned a lot. I made a ton of mistakes and gained a ton of ideas in the process. The painting part of this is what is stressing me out. As far as space, my goal is for each modular piece be just small enough to fit through my attic access. I LOVE the modular idea: saves space, and might allow for different setups either to make a "different" building, or just to allow easier access to whatever part of the hq you are using at that moment. Remember, my advice might not be worth more than you paid for it. Bottom line: I look forward to seeing your ideas, and really like the look of what you've done so far.

So back from Hobby Lobby with a ton of foam core and an emptier wallet to start. I figured I would just chronicle the whole mess from the beginning. So here are my tools, everything is pretty recoginzable except maybe the blue thing. It trims most of the way through foam core to leave an edge. You can see it here WC-4010 FoamWerks Foamboard Rabbet Cutter available at Hobby Lobby. They should send me free blades for the advertising...
My template for the side walls So my plan for tonight is to complete four side walls and some of the front walls. I am building two sections as shown on the first page. The mock will be used for testing paint, and quite possibly a battle damaged section when it's all said and done. Just have to wait for New Year's season to get some "Joe" size explosives for a that blown up look without paint.

Be careful if you're going to use spraypaint. the paint will stay on the surface but the propellant will soak through and dissolve away the foam underneath. For something this big you'd be better off buying a mechanical or compressed air paint sprayer and using latex based paints. I learned this fact the hard way. This is a terrordrome I am building and I had several walls dissolve away from the propellants in the spray paint.

Finished the side supports tonights for the two outer sections and some of the corresponding fascia. I should have the structure for both finished tomorrow and a start on the center structure. I changed the design so the floors could be removed for better lighting for dio shots. I just need to figure out how to support the floors but I think I have that solved, just need to wait for the glue to dry. More pics tomorrow.
