There's only been a few actual Supermobiles based on this design
in production... Corgi did one back in the '70's/80s that was Hot Wheels sized (I had one) and then after "Superfriends" became "Super Powers" the toys released a 1/18-ish scale Supermobile but they mucked with the design and released it without fists. Here's some screencaps from the original Superfriends cartoon episode, "Lex Luthor Strikes Back", showing Superman using the Supermobile after some sun-creatures take away his powers by turning the sun red. I wanted to capture that same flavor in my custom. Here's some WIP shots. I still don't have the fists done yet, but I do have the parts in mind and the attachment method, think its' going to rock! FYI I'm still working on my other stuff (Cadillacs and Dinosaurs) haven't given up on those yet, just doing this in the meantime... this project has actually taken me longer! Notes: mods move this message if it doesn't belong in this forum... didn't actually use Joe parts on this custom (yet), but the scale is in-line with 25th anniv. Joes. Ok, have attached the arms now. They're actually arms from a junked Powermaster Prime figure. The paint application's not perfect, as you can still see some red in spots, but you can get the idea. FYI I also changed up my Superman's head, as I recently got a DCIH Superman and his head was much better than the Mr. Fantastic Head I was using.
"Don't worry Aquaman, with the Supermobile, I'll have all the power I need!" "I've made some enhancements to help neutralize our super-enemies -- like these blasters!" "But for really tough situations, it's best to use our FISTS!" (cards in some of the shots just to get the right angle for the photo, since the toy doesn't actually fly) Last edited by vidmouse; 12-11-2009 at 01:17 PM.. |

Thanks!
Forgot to mention the recipe: The main body is the Bat-sub from the Brave and Bold series out now... used a band saw to chop the canopy then reseated it to get a more "bulbous" effect. Used a cutout from a clear pop bottle glued to the hinge from the sub to make the canopy. Removed the bat-headlights by apoxie sculpt, then spray painted. Added S-symbols by decoupage. The sub originally came with some scrawny robot arms with pincers that had hex-point attachments common to the Brave n Bold series. I unscrewed the attachment and screwed it right onto the spare Optimus prime Powermaster arms I had and presto, Supermobile's got armpower. Added the Red tailwings as an afterthought, they're forearm shields from a RiD Optimus Prime, but I like them, they give the Supermobile bulk. |
