I have been working on and off on a couple Cobra helicopters. These aren?t really exciting builds since there?s not much modification involved, but I figured I would post what I have done.
The first is the Cobra Constrictor, which is first seen in the Revenge of Cobra mini-series. In the opening scenes, one of the parts of the weather dominator is captured by Cobra and is taken away by helicopter in a net. ![]() ![]() This helicopter is very clearly a slightly simplified CH-47 Chinook. The GI Joe Field Manual volume 1 names it the Constrictor. ![]() I wanted to make this one to go along with the Diamondbacks I made, so I got the Trumpeter 1/72 CH-47 kit. Tho only real modification was to fill in the center windows so the big Cobra decal will lay better. ![]() I?ve gotten as far as construction and priming it. ![]() |

The other helicopter I?ve been working on is a different version of the Cobra recon helicopter. One version looks like this:
![]() ![]() I am attempting to build this one as well in a different thread. But there is another version of this seen in the Revenge of Cobra miniseries. When Cobra Commander gets freed from prison by Zartan, he is taken back to the Cobra temple in a transport helicopter that is similar but distinct from the Reconnaissance H licopter pictured above. For example, instead of a NOTAR, this helicopter has a Fenesteon: ![]() This helicopter has a fold-down door with stairs instead of a sliding door: ![]() The nose of this helicopter appears much more rounds as well. Similar to the other version, a side-mounted cannon is visible: ![]() In any case, it seemed to me that this was a different transport helicopter than the other version. and I decided to build it to go with the other Revenge of Cobra aircraft. I chose the Revell EC-135 as the starting point for this aircraft. This type has the nice rounded front and the Fenestron, and it was relatively simple to cut a door out of the side and build a staircase on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() I did build the side cannon out of some spares. ![]() I?ll get this masked and painted soon, hopefully. |

I have been reading through the ARAH comics from the start, and Cobra has a bunch of real-world equipment in those issues. In Issue number 1, there is a helicopter that picks up the Baroness and her hostage. This is an Mi-2, NATO reporting name Hoplite. I thought it was a cool helicopter, so I decided to make one for the Cobra Air Force.

These are fantastic.
I appreciate them even more because you are - I think - the only one here working in this scale. So it gives you your own landscape to take in any direction. |

I agree with you about having freedom working in this scale. The flip side is that there is nobody with helpful how-to videos or posts I can imitate. In any case, I?m glad you like them.
