I discovered today I made a completely bone-headed mistake and put one of the engine pods on upside down. After fixing this, I attached the outboard portions of the wings. It?s looking like a real aircraft now. Lots of sanding and filling next.
I?ve also come up with an interesting idea for a display. As a kid, I always wondered how they got the drone back on the Raven after it had flown off. I was thinking about building some sort of gantry crane to show this step in action. |

After a ton of filling, sanding, priming, and repeating all of these, I have the engine housings more or less done. I have also modeled some more on the missile bay, the cockpit, and some other details. I need to mount the vertical stabilizers and make the canards, and then the body of the plane will be more or less done.

With the body of the Raven basically done, it?s time to return to the smaller details. One of these is the engine intakes. The SR-71 has large cones protruding from the intakes. The Raven, on the other hand, has an interesting slats-with-fins arrangement. Personally, I really like that part of the plane, so I tried to reproduce it with strip styrene and the tip of an old missile.

The raven has these interesting missile pods with missiles that fire rearwards. Tonight I reproduced them with some square styrene tube, missile tips, sheet styrene, and some other odds and ends from the spares box.

I made the canards out of styrene sheet. The texture was made with very thin .010 inch styrene. They were attached with the help of some small metal pins

Keeping everything parallel and square can be so much fun.

Dude, this is some amazing modeling. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I?ve been working on the base for the Raven. Here?s what I have so far.
I have a question: is there a way to get more megabytes for uploading? I?m creeping closer to the limit as I post pictures. Last edited by DMC; 10-27-2024 at 11:10 PM.. Reason: Didn?t attach the picture |
