Consumer warning: Please, Don't pay Amazon prices for this set. It can show up occasionally in Marshall's.
Also I have to get this rant out of my system. It is a disgrace that this is an "Official Licensed Product of the US Army." The box and aircraft state, it is an AH-64 Apache. No. It isn't. It is an AH-1 Cobra but not an Army Cobra. It is a Marine Corps Super Cobra. The plastic is super thin. So thin that it is opaque when backlit by an interior light. And it doesn't retain the factory paint. I used a knife but your fingernail can remove the markings and camouflage pattern. This concludes tonight's rant now for the rest of the story.

The good thing is it looks like a Cobra and the proportions aren't that bad.
It comes apart easily, there wasn't any glue and the sound card, speaker and batteries are contained in the ugly black wing stores. Superglue appears to adhere to the plastic and it didn't melt when I hit it with Rustoleum Camo 2x. I scrubbed, sanded and cleaned the parts so I hope the spray paint will take. Going to be lazy and leave the engine compartments open. If the paint doesn't take then it will be a trashed Dragonfly straight from the boneyard.

Straight out the box, even a ML teenage girl figure will not fit.
After some surgery to the fuselage, a Cobra will fit in the Cobra.

I guess the thin plastic makes surgery easier. The other plus side of using cheap toys is you won’t be as disappointed if the custom is not successful, but you’ve proved your inventiveness so I have no fear of that.

Everyone Thanks for the vote of confidence.
To make up for cutting out the seat added a bulkhead made from foam core poster board left over from the Falcon Glider. No reason to waste a sheet of polystyrene. Cut off the cross members on the bottom of the skid tubes. The bottoms of the skid tubes are hollow so I filled them with round black coffee drink stirs. The stirs don't fill the void perfectly but help make up for the loss of the cross members. Also swapped the roundels so the stars are pointing right side up.

The spray paint is still a little tacky but I think it will cure within the "7 days for plastic" listed on can.
With the semi-tack decided to quickly throw some acrylic on. "If you can't hide it paint it red." In the case of the ugly cargo hook paint it dirty metallic. The tab in front of the ALQ-144 was painted red to simulate the anti-smash light that would have been there. Not going for the same camo but this was a great photo to figure out how to color the disco ball.

Cool Haslab announcement today.
One major reason a purpose designed vehicle will be better than a appropriated one should be a more universal visual compatibility. The Choppa is AH/MH-6 ish so figure doesn't look that too far off. Even though Duke can stand under the rotor system of the AH-1. He and any other figure while on the ground will always look off. Seated holding flight controls donated from another aircraft. In the cockpit isn't too bad. Quote:
You're putting quite the effort into this and it's paying off well. I'm not a fan of Duke, but he looks great with that headgear. I happen to like the scale. Like Griff (I think) said, it's almost an equivalent of a FANG copter, except for the Joes. You could even give this a cool code-name of your own.
You and Griff are correct based on the profile and proportions a decent Fang. Other than the colors that I painted it which fit the Joe's Cannon and Mantis. Need to dig out the Dragonhawk and see what this looks like next to that.
