I started this project in January 2021. I made this design with the same dimensions of the Flagg toy but added below deck play value. Not going for perfection here. Just having fun. I know I accidentally started a thread on the finished product column sorry. Here's the project from the beginning. Loved all the comments. Thanks for the support. I always wanted to design G.I.Joe toys. All I know how to work with is wood though. I designed playgrounds for years and now my kids are grown and I dug out my collection. Maybe you custom figure guys can make a few custom deck figures or an admiral for it.

It’s beautiful. I’ve wanted to build one from wood as well. If I ever get my dream shop dedicated to my woodworking (not a crammed garage with mobile benches) I’m definitely going to follow your inspiration.

Believe it or not all I have to work with is an old table saw and some cheap power tools. In my cold garage in the cold winter in MN. I have made many mistakes but have had lots of fun. I was just going to have a square box under it like some others I saw and then I thought what if I angle this here....then I couldn't stop. Nice peaceful part of my day each day. Good luck! .. I couldn't afford one when i was a kid and still can't as an adult. Probably have only about 350 wrapped up in it. I hope you make time to build one.

Wow that's pretty amazing. Great work and attention to detail. I'm betting you'll paint it and add stickers but there's something so nice about seeing it made of the bare wood. Really cool.

You are correct, I am not really finished. I submitted it in the wrong category. I am still working on it. I will be painting it and adding stickers after building it. I did add a thread under the work in progress category too. There I have really early photos.
Currently I am adding an anchor room in the front with working chains and building a tow vehicle. I will make custom handrails and attach the doors and finally paint. I thought maybe 90 for a number. Definitely will post losts of pictures so check back. My mistake.... This is the work in progress category. The other thread in the completed category has more up to date photos. Yo Joe! G.I. I am being facetious in this post given the current price of lumber but ...
OK, we get it! Dang! Not only are you extremely talented at wood working, but your freakin' rich too!! Way to rub it in our faces. "Yeah, I'll see your vintage USS Flagg estimated at $700, and raise you a custom-built USS Flagg estimated at $2000!" LOL!! All kidding aside, this is an amazing project and a work of art! I love that it is not an exact reproduction of the toy also. The customized tail where the WHALE can launch plus the customized phalanx cannon and missile launchers are just awesome. I am sure this will be the source of inspiration for many customizers. Jason |
