I recently got my first order in from AngelForge. They had just the torso I was looking for (biker gear) After priming the torso pieces, I noticed something: they don’t fit quite as snug as I thought. This is my first time using custom pieces...this is my first custom in general, to be honest.
The biggest issues I’ve noticed is the huge gaps at the seams. I was wondering if this was normal, and if so what do you all use to fill in those gaps? I have a custom head that goes with this body, but I’ll have to find specific Joe arms and legs for what I’m trying to accomplish. This is just a test run. If this doesn’t go well, I’ll put these pieces to the side and just use Marauder bodies with the custom head and accessories, but figured I’d go as far with these pieces as I can. I’m attaching photos below, so hopefully this all makes sense. |

Yeah, I hate to tell you, but that's pretty much how those torsos are. I think and I could obviously be mistaken that they are 25th Joe torso that were cracked and then sculpted over originally which is why Joe parts work so well with Angelforge torsos, but other parts don't seem to. It could be that after so many casts have been made from the original mold that it is beginning to "warp" some and doesn't fit together as well as it once did. Some greenstuff will fill the gaps and then let it cure and sand it. Once painted you won't notice it.

Flint,
Thank you so much! That actually makes me feel better about these pieces. I still might use the Marauder figure pieces for this character but I’m also gonna try the green stuff method and possible use these pieces for another member of this group. I’m gonna look up how to use Green Stuff 😊👍 |

If I had a gap after these prep points, I use modeling clay to seal up the rest. Sure hope this works! Out of curiosity, who are you building?

Hey Slice!
I wrote a book a while ago (nothing published, just for me) and I wanted some physical versions of some of my favorite characters in it. I’ve dabbled with custom miniatures from Hero Forge. Those were fun as I’ve never had miniatures nor painted them, but I’ve always wanted to go a little bigger. When I found out about Marauder and the customizing community here, I figured I’d try to absorb as much as possible. It seems like fun. The pieces I got here are for a biker character partially inspired by Sonny Landham’s character in Predator (although he wasn’t a biker in that movie) |

There’s a few reasons for the cast torso not fitting together well.
1 - When the original torso was split apart, it could have been warped by the pressure, making the parts not fit perfectly anymore. If it was molded like that, every cast wouldn’t fit right. 2 - The cast parts could have been pulled from the mold before they cooled down, thus the warp effect. 3 - The mold could be outdated (usually after 30 runs, molds will start to deteriorate) or it was a miscast (not enough resin in the mold or air trapped causing the defect) There’s a couple things you can do to try to fix the cast. 1 - Try heating up a container of water and put the parts in the container. While the parts are still warm, press them together trying to get them to fit better. 2 - If heat doesn’t help, you can use green stuff, or better yet Aves Fixit Sculpt, to fill the gaps. I’d repair the torso defects even before trying to make any arms or legs work with it. 3 - Try a different torso. The torso from ROC Storm Shadow or Retaliation Firefly (same torso mold) works well for a biker jacket. You can most likely still get those parts relatively easy too. |

I'm gonna try the hot water option first.
Is there anything I should be doing to the inside of the torso? On one side it has four little pins but on the other side it only has two holes for the pins. |

There should be holes for each pin to fit into. If that’s what is keeping the parts from fitting together, you can either drill holes for the pins with a pin vise or remove the pins instead. You’ll need the lower torso innards from a donor torso (chest bar to connect the 2 halves and t-bar to attach legs) as well to make it function.

I ordered some of the other parts I need along with stuff from Marauders. I might do the Marauder version first and then see how it would compare to these pieces I have.
I've been looking up stuff on youtube in regards to Greenstuff and Aves Fixit Sculpt. The amazing things one can do with this stuff! |
