Don’t have a scale yet but filled with water it is heavy enough to fracture its walls if you grab or move it too fast. Feels like a gallon jug of milk on the wrist.
Here's some pictures of the grille on the warthog. It looks like a grille but it is a solid plate. there are not slits, just deep groves to look like an open grille. I made several mistakes. I designed it as a compartment that can be opened up and initial thoughts were to have the electronics switches there.. however that area gets flooded often. I never really gave it proper thought. And now it is an afterthought, I need to seal it to prevent water from entering and staying there, yet it is wasted buoyancy volume. I made a replica grille but forgot I had simplified the shape. things that happen when you get away from a project and then back on it later... Can you tell what happened with these guys? a great tip from Andrew on youtube, to try HengLong 1/16 panzer 3/4 tracks.
1/16 is typically too big, but since the pz3,pz4 were medium tanks with narrow tracks... ends up wide tracks in 1/24-1/18 scale. here it is. very attractive price. great design. clean. strong plastic. probably nylon or POM. single horn, fits the mauler and warthog with some adjustments. https://youtu.be/VDSCbNFJL_0 only negative I see is that the finish of the metal pins is somewhat cheap. unevenly and too thinly blackened. these pins will rust in a jiffy. Sea water will eat them. for playing on table, on smooth floors and indoors... I might have to make some rubber traction blocks and glue or screw these on. that's very labor intensive and I am not looking forward to it rightnaway. as far as outside... in the dirt... great tracks! maulers/equalizer/wolverines/lynx and mobats will equally benefit from this find Last edited by Joecollection18; 05-10-2022 at 01:41 AM.. |

UPDATES
Heng Long tracks: the first set I received was gorgeous, save for the uneven finish of the metal pins. but the plastic was awesome. All other sets I ordered.. are JUNK. different molds, different plastic, nasty flashes, finish, just plain JUNK. Some sets are even used with the worn edges from running on concrete or asphalt. Seller insists it is just " warehouse dust". Sure. yeah. These are super cheap but very slow shipping. lesson learned: do not order multiple sets. wait until a set arrive and qualifies for use. I am giving one last chance and this option will be forgotten. Tamiya are expensive but at least they never played bait and switch or went into compulsive corner cutting. New printers are in. The same one I had but with some touchscreen updates and is not working ( updates BS ) and a larger one which I ran today. https://youtu.be/Vm4mR8rHg24 recap/ updates video: https://youtu.be/O7f0ReT4lOk Last edited by Joecollection18; 05-14-2021 at 02:39 AM.. |

Sucks about the printer but loving the progress.
FWIW here's where I got the tracks. Both sets came in a nice bag and shipped pretty fast. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153516733149?var=453503425344 But might be more expensive than where you're getting the tracks.

First lake test. rushed.
Last minute opportunity for a lake test. https://youtu.be/qoQpEnpo7lg https://youtu.be/pUAhsjpMqFQ Joe Scale wise, the wind, current and waves... mmmh, storm? Tamiya tracks did not like the pebbles. To be expected. Idler wheels need some redesign to clear the pebbles better. My power transition mechanism, tracks or jets, is too slow. Running both could help but would draw twice the power... The jets work well in a tupperware , or calm waters. Need more power to fight currents. Also, the rocking of the warthog on the waves prevents the jets to be fed properly. Tempted to add a third power source, a straight booster water thruster at rear bottom hull. Not on film, I played until I hit some waves that splashed all over the deck and filled up the warthog. In real life they do button up in choppy water, duh! Need a bilge pump and close all hatches... The retrieval buoy was not put to use. These shores were shallow enough to enable warthog to limp home. More work needed. Last edited by Joecollection18; 05-10-2022 at 01:41 AM.. |
