The latest videos look amazing. I bought one of those KV1 gearboxes. I really want to hook up an RC Mauler. Do you recommend a decent RC remote? I have the one for my heng long tiger and some other cheap rock crawlers but I think those are manufacturer specific. Thanks for making all the tutorial videos. I especially love the one where you compare the model kit details to the joe toys. Fascinating stuff.

Bulky but a decent investment for larger tanks/trucks , etc... And coupled to this: P3 Equally a solid investment and versatile for tiny projects (1/35 scale) To larger joe stuff . You can use tiny 3.7V stamp size lipo To full size 7.2V RC stick and what not in between, like 4x AA or 4x C cells... etc Just read the fine print, It looks like the ECU board can be made to work with a 2 channel radio, maybe like a car remote? I haven't tried that, probably cheaper and more compact!! The futaba 4ch & ECU above are the combo in my mauler and warthog shown in most vids. I wish the remote could be smaller, maybe it does exist But I don't know any. I tried a bunch of cheapo remotes and electronics but nothing but disappointment such as lag, Jerky drive, etc... Sadly Those cheap RC tanks/robots drive horribly.

Still need to see those Bruder tracks you bought...
Also, this tank might have some useful components for you: https://www.ebay.com/itm/193964510811 The remote moves the treads independently, rotates the turret left or right, controls a machine gun sound effect, and "fires" the main gun. The best part is that you can combine any and all of those commands all at once EXCEPT the firing of the main gun (that command requires the treads to not be moving since it simulates a rocking of the tank by moving both treads back and forth slightly). Point is, the PCBs it uses might be useful to you. The remote itself is kinda flimsy, but if you print a better case for its components this might be useful. About the only thing this set doesn't do is control elevation of the main gun. Plenty of onboard sound effects, some lights, and some motors inside the tank that you could steal as well. And, of course, more rubber treads... It's a True Heroes "Sentinel 1" brand Abrams in roughly Joe scale. I bought one from TRU before they went out of business but they pop up on eBay occasionally. Not that you have a shortage of ideas, but have you considered making a remote control bridge layer?

Once completed, the first video of this thing needs to be recreating the scene from the commercial jumping from land to water. :P

Another cool inspiration video from FB. These AAVs look really fast and maneuverable in the water.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/6885...1174262681843/ Btw I ordered a bunch of parts so hoping to get an RC mauler going soon!

already have spotted some nice sand banks & mucho ideas for videos right now, it still floats like a leaky bucket. meaning when flooded, it sinks to the bottom. |

https://www.facebook.com/groups/6885...1174262681843/ Btw I ordered a bunch of parts so hoping to get an RC mauler going soon! i have propeller drive authority problems. design, location etc... the real thing has impeller jets above the tracks, which are the widest and therefore best control. . cannot do this because the warthog floats higher, so the area above the track is not submerged enough. i chose on the lower rear hull, between the tracks. well submerged enough but some efficiency issues. tamiya only offers their great props in one direction only. i would need a mirrored side to have symetric thrust. i 3d printed a bunch of my own propellers yesterday, within limitations of the 3d printing. issues of cavitation, reliability, lack of efficiency. i am now making some inserts to channel the water around to see if i can find a fix. last year i made miniature impeller jets for the tamiya 1/35 PBR boat. it ended up a nightmare at that scale. most ready jacuzzi drive for RC are fairly too large for my application. at a smaller scale, all kinds of issues. the jets had to be primed because an air bubble could mess it up. i play with different nozzles until i found the best results. bottom line, at such a small scale, a conventional propeller is far simpler and more efficient. the jets have advantage of not tangling on debris and weeds, but until you get them right it's complicated. note that the commercially available jets for RC cannot be reversed, mine could. i had airfoil grates inside the output nozzles to prevent FOD these videos show 1/16 scale where they can use the proven jets and servo controlled nozzles. lucky bastards. i you ask, why don't you make the warthog float lower and mimics the Amtracs jets and location... i tested a lower floating, higher waterline. it is bad. warthog is stubby and unless lengthened, will not float as well. current weight and floatation i currently have is adequate. if heavier, it starts to wobble, rock side to side like a cork. stability issues, and having the water closer to the top, easier to flood / tip/ sink. i could wing this, but if the water propulsion is poor...any breeze or current will defeat the warthog control. it's not fun when your RC creation does not respond as intended. it's not fun when your toy is stuck in a pond. considering plan B if i cannot find a fix in the coming days, hacking off entire rear wall, considering a way to instal real marine drives with real power, sacrificing the rear crew benches and floor. this weekend I made a switchbox. a third channel rotates a cam which toggles the electrical switches. this switch system alternates the power from being directed to the tracks or to the props. still dealing with water leaks, rear ramp seal issues. expanding the electronics drybox under the crew, in attempt to trap as much air as I can. right now, if flooded, warthog sinks. not good. can't wait to see your maulers! i have an Aussie Mauler project, Anzacs in Nam style Mauler. i have some videos i did not post because they are too shakey. Here’s the video with the bruder tracks btw: https://youtu.be/dimKAlN2zwk and more pics later this week

who do you recommend for the most accurate decals?
I love toyhax but it seems they are getting creative and taking liberties here... (far right) I just got my first batch from rattlerrepros (middle). more accurate but the white is an off-white. yellowed from age, old stock maybe? left set is vintage European issue which omits the US flag. replaced by the stripes and the blue star. action force maybe?. poor quality. they don't stick well and the cropping is off. some color bleed/mismatch in the print process. maybe i just got unlucky. i am not sure the decals would work on top of paint. i will keep the european sheet for reference and am considering painting the eyes and teeth over the paint, like they do in real life... OR not paint the top and just use repro decals. but which ones are accurate like the toy we had? toyhax eyes are bigger and different.
