I think you should go with black. In fact if I ever get my hands in this kit I will probably repaint the fuselage in grey. Looks more military that way. This almost white color makes it look like a prototype

Looks really great. If you keep it white, maybe give it to BF2K? Otherwise, go black/gray and stealthy.

Beautiful work! I like the mods. I really think Skystorm would pop with a black and grey scheme, especially with subdued markings.
Right now you are my hero. I want to start 3d modeling and get a good resin printer. I'm a 1/6 scale guy, and I would love to be able to build helmets and guns in this scale. Mainframe's helmet, Interrogator's helmet, and the body armor for Flash and Grand Slam are all things I want to do. I might even be tempted to do 1/18 again. But a 1/6 version of the Cobra Island troopers now seems more possible now with the stuff you are doing. Great work all around! |

Great work!
Are you planning to do something about the landing gear? Any plans in modifying the cockpit? And since you have a Longbow-type mast mounted radar, will you beef up the wings to carry hellfire missiles? |

Thank you guys so much! I ended up just going with grey paint to match the tail and other details. I also added some stickers that I think really help make it look “stock”.
I don’t plan to add more detail to the cockpit or swap out the missiles. I really love these toys as toys and any mods I’m doing are just to fix things that I think are missed opportunities from the original design. I don’t want them to get too “scale model” and detailed but that’s just my own aesthetic for my collection. I almost want it to look like a lost prototype. Something cool that I didn’t plan for is the longbow sensor dome. It makes a great grip for spinning the rotor blades! I just made a GI Joe action figure movie and the skystorm features prominently in that. Take a look and you can see it in action! It’s really swooshable now. Oh and my little one ripped one of the rotor blades off so you maybe notice in some shots it’s hot glued on! https://youtu.be/3rbpACA19Co Go to around 4:39 and Wild Bill will walk you through all the new systems. Thanks again for all the feedback and the kind words. I don’t know if you all are this way, but I have 4 or 5 projects and ideas all going at once so I may come back to this down the road and add some more stuff. But for now I’d call it done. @sf officer - the printer I have can be had for around $200 now, I think. The tools we now have access to is amazing. Definitely go for it!

Thanks for the update Nova. I have to get my wife through one more semester of school and then I will definitely be purchasing a printer. I also have to learn how to use Blender or another program first.

Wow, that looks amazing. Really gives the Skystorm a new lease of life. Looks legit now.
I’d match the rotors the same gray as the vertical fins. I think an all black rotor/head assembly might be too overpowering. But that’s just me. |

awesome stuff!
i never liked the skystorm as a kid, but i am really starting to dig it now. seeing your mods made me look at it with a different eye. i scored a MIB as well as a used one. nice how low the prices are compared to more popular vehicles. very nice budget vehicles haha the wimpy, flimsy saggy blades is a weakness, and so it the blocky rotor piece. then... not much of a landing gear. astonishingly cost efficient toy. no metal, all plastic... they went a bit too cheap IMHO, that's too bad because it is a sleek, great looking craft. it is supposed to replace the dragonfly, as it goes faster and carries more... it is hinted that being more modern, more powerful, it has more payload? the cartoon and commercials show these things hauling vehicles... where is the winch? i cut the engine bay inside and retrofitted a dragonfly winch drum. crude but works. now I can airlift vehicles and cargo like the dragonfly. See the video here: https://youtu.be/eteS0XUtomk we still need a landing gear solution... i feel like the rotor hub needs to be on my list of projects, and should be the same color as the fuselage, as shown on the early prototype pictures(catalogues/back of box) some pics of my first skystorm I put together last weekend as if it was 1988!
