I really like what you did here. Scarlet looks GREAT! All of them look great. I am just starting to work on Joes, something I have always wanted to do. Your pictures and commentary are a great help to me. Please keep sharing I really like the Roadblock and what you did with Dukes head.

OH. MY. WORD... this is incredible! You are seriously talented man! What is the head and face for that shipwreck/torpedo custom, kind of looks like the masked portion might be a boss fight hacks blank?

Now something a little more fun and unexpected was this impromptu technique for making throwing stars. I made a small box, poured hot glue in it, then rammed a star-head screwdriver bit into it. Once it cooled, I cut off the end so it was open on both sides and pushed green stuff through. After that set, I chopped it up and chose the best shapes:
I realize that MTF makes throwing stars, and bought them for this purpose, but I thought they were a bit big and easy to knock off the arm. -Todd Shakka85

Thanks Turner. Has it been so long since you graced this site with your Boulder Hill photos? I’m gonna bump that thread. Because woo hoo! It’s awesome! Quote:

Thank you Todd. Sometimes good ideas come when you least expect, especially when over-budget I see good ideas in your work all the time. Thanks for the kind words, man. It’s good to have guys like you on this site who, even with your own tremendous talent, are genuinely interested in everyone else’s creativity too. Can’t wait to see what you’re cooking up next! |

I actually think it's cool that Hasbro made Classified Roadblock look like his '86 version. For my own I want to lean more towards 1984. This will require a shave, sculpting the face, creating the classic goatee, a camo tank top, and I'm undecided if he actually has to have all the exact original colors or if he can be a Classified update, just more like '84.
First up, the modifications to his webgear. I'm probably not the first to cut down his vest to just the straps, but there's the problem of the vest only having one actual shoulder strap, when I want two. Enter my ridiculously lazy method (again) of cast molding with hot glue. The work-in progress below shows just what I've done so far. I've still got to make the front strap match. |

Test shots that remind me that Classified Roadblock's head still needs a LOT more work! I've given him a basic shave, but the chin needs to be smaller yet, which entails more trimming with the hobby knife followed by fine-grain sanding and finally buffing with cloth to get the shine back. But the '84 look is starting to take shape.
I think part of why this head sculpt has gotten negative feedback is the shiny paint. The beard and eyebrows are too glossy, so he always looks worse in pictures. Another problem is a lack of eyelashes! I'll be fixing all of that of course, if all goes well. |

Rather than paint the torso, I'm first going to try a soft goods shirt.
I have done a few practice ones, and have put them on the bay for anyone interested. EDIT: first batch sold out, but I’ll make them until I run out of fabric: https://www.ebay.com/itm/G-I-Joe-Cla...edirect=mobile This is just the beginning of other things I'll be selling to benefit Operation Underground Railroad. I can't think of another charity I'd rather dedicate my Joe hobby to. Check them out at OURrescue.org Last edited by ARBCO Avenue; 12-21-2020 at 10:07 PM.. |
