Thanks! I try.

I?m reading over this a second time. My hat is off to you Zap. I don?t know when the color printing technology will catch up to your vision but I?m impressed nonetheless. I wish frustrations like these weren?t part of progress. You are definitely breaking into new territory. I?m sure you?ll find a way.
Edit: I reread the 1st part again about the quality levels. I?d be interested to see it under a microscope to understand better. Even Hasbro?s current face painting techniques are grainy. Different process I know. Quote:
Well your modeling is absolutely top notch!
Bummer about the color prints, I had high hopes. I also gave shapeways a shot with a simple carbonite box, the price was high ($25!) and that was for the cheapest non-color material. Resin seems to be the best way to go. But I need to explore working with alcohol inks for coloring the UV resin. But man, resin is dang heavy compared to PLA its a bit of a turn off when you think about things that need to be on hooks or go inside ships. (I also have a weird issue with it filing in a hole that I know is there on the model but thats besides the point). I'm tempted to see if I can get one of those table top injection molders but so far only see them for like $10K! If you need peer pressure to help get you into doing the inks in resin, then consider yourself pressured. DO IT! I am looking very seriously at vacuu-forming polycarbonate for cockpit glass but your color selections are basically nil for that method. And about Shapeways pricing? Yeah, they're pretty much out of the question for anything of substantial size and it's getting worse all of the time. I don't bother uploading and creating listings there anymore for the most part. My shop is just sitting there in auto-pilot with the existing offerings. I was starting to add some colorized options until I got this ODST armor print in hand and then I immediately stopped. Quote:

I already posted this in the Jurassic Park/World thread, but I am cross-posting here since it's part of my 3d-printed diorama stuff...
I made a raptor crate in true 1:18 scale to the movie prop and as screen-accurate as I can get it. I have been wanting to do one of these for a loooong time, and I finally got around to printing out a prototype. I made a few adjustments and will be re-printing in light gray, but here it is: Front view: Back view: Side view: Front with the door off: This has "wheels" just like the movie prop: Hammond Collection raptor outside: Hammond Collection raptor inside: With a legacy Muldoon for scale: The ladder rungs are compatible with figure hands: And the door handle is also compatible with figure hands: Reference: Aaaand some pipe dream plans if I find the time to slice this up into pieces to make it possible to print and assemble: The raptor crate in that image is to scale, so with as large as the crate is you can imagine how big that raptor pen would be in 1:18...nearly the size of a coffee table.

Of course! I have a Black Series General Veers head I'm going to put on the new Admiral Piett body.
Some down scaling requires redoing the peg hole, but I have a process to do that in under 20 minutes now.

How clean is the mesh it produces? That's a pretty hefty investment for that scanner but the results are fantastic. Any movement on the alcohol dyes in your resin yet?
