Alcohol ink does indeed work. I added some orange alcohol ink to clear resin to 3d print a clear Raspberry Pi Case in the shape of a N64. Turned out pretty good.
https://www.thingiverse.com/make:847231 I'm thinking about doing more colors in the near future to 3D print some Ghostbusters ghosts (like Slimer). Last edited by Cryoguns; 12-17-2021 at 09:41 PM.. |

I have seen some use a 0.25mm head instead of the standard 0.4 on FDM, and use some settings specifically for printing gaming miniatures. They appear to turn out pretty good, but I still prefer using my resin printer for those kinds of things.

So a smoked glass appearance should be doable with some black ink, I would think. As long as it's true black at least. Yellow glass should be no problem at all. I really wish resin printing didn't have such major health risks involved 'cause I would be all over it like white on rice.

Prepping a large batch of parts...
Tailhooks: LANTIRN targeting pods: Arresting cable sheaves: TCS/IRST chin pods: Landing gear upgrades: Intake fans: Engine nozzles: Seat upgrade (will need to be reprinted) and prison toilet: And I need to re-work my design a bit on the rear gear covers. I am having a fragility issue with the spring's mounting point: Which means these are all second quality rejects now: I have also adjusted my RIO joystick to be a separate piece that gets inserted into the instrument panel. This allows me to print the joystick "laying down" which makes it much stronger.

So...I woke up Christmas Eve morning to a dead PC. The monitor just had a solid grey screen and the computer gave no response to keyboard or mouse input. I figured it was just some oddball crash so I powered it down and restarted...nothing.
No boot up, no BIOS, fans running but nothing at all happening. I'm not much of a hardware guy so I had to do some research. As I discovered, my computer was apparently successfully passing its POST (I would get a single beep), but nothing happened after that. The power supply fan, the main cooling fan, the CPU cooling fan, and the graphics card cooling fans would all run indefinitely and the hard drive would start to work then stop after about 2 seconds. The little light on the front of the tower that blinks when the hard drive is doing something would make two rapid blinks and that's it. The fans would keep on going but nothing more would happen, not even a BIOS screen and no error code beeps from the motherboard. Just fan noise for all eternity. The system just wouldn't do anything more than that. This is the computer that I do all of my 3d modeling on, by the way, and I hadn't backed up my modeling files in almost a year as it turns out. So...that's a major, major problem. I didn't have time to work on the computer to find out how hosed I might be since there were lots and lots of Christmas plans and obligations to attend to all weekend and then a work week to deal with after that. So I had to let things sit for pretty much an entire week. I was praying it was something as cheap and simple as a bad power supply. The computer was passing its POST test but maybe it was just not giving the proper power somewhere after that? I can hope, right? Well I tested that out first, and NOPE. The power supply was good. That leaves the motherboard, the hard drive, and possibly the BIOS battery...and about a dozen other things like graphics card, RAM, and other peripherals. The BIOS battery was good, so...crap. That means it's possibly the mobo or the hdd. A bad motherboard would be a pain in the butt to replace, but a dead hdd would be...really really bad in my case. So as I'm about to wish myself dead for not sticking to my own file backup protocols, I follow the basic first steps of diagnosis listed all over the internet by unplugging stuff from the mobo to see if one of the components is bad. Thank the merciful lord IT WAS MY GRAPHICS CARD! Once I had that out, everything started up and hummed like normal. So I can't do much high-intensity modeling just now since my graphics processing is just run through the onboard video on the mobo but the hard drive lives! The mobo lives! I backed up my files first thing once I got it started and I haven't lost anything but time, probably some hair, and whatever it's going to cost me to replace my graphics card. All of this is to say, if you haven't backed up your important files to an external drive, flash drives, the cloud, or whatever you use, this is your new year's reminder to BACK UP YOUR DATA RIGHT NOW!! You never know when things are going to crap out on you and I got really, really lucky this time.

I guess I'll put this option out there since this is a simple enough job... If someone pays for a cantina set for me so I don't have to deal with shipping one back and forth as a loaner, I'll design and publicly release a model file of a replacement door panel for it on Thingiverse. Then anybody can print one and people can tweak it all they like, it'll just cost the universe one cantina and some of my time.
