THE PROJECT:
what if... we pretend it's the same 1988-1989 VIBE of new joes... for example new joes figs with orings. various characters. anything from 1982 to 1994 using a 1:1 3d printed buck, because we are not going to manufacture this but prototype it. 3D print it. model it, sculpt it. it's ours. we do what we want. so i started a replica buck. 1:1 scale. we could share files on thi giverse. contribute our skills. z brush it. share our creations here, an art contests. by us for us. i took my friend as a model to see how small I can make swivel arms. see the picture. in white a standard joe legs. i approximated the buck I saw on the hascon pics but since we are 3D printing these, we can skip on the wax/epoxy putty and sculpt / model on the computer, then sand the printed colored abs, like I did for my friend. z brush or any digital sculpting would totally make sense here. i still want to make a few wax/ epoxy sculpts, just for the experience Bill Merklein went through.. clay is fun and free in a creative sense. sculpey, milliput. i would like to see what other would make onto a faithful joe buck. time machine what-ifs. what would a 1988-89 Covergirl look like? i can model some parts but need help with heads, hands and generic organic shapes, cloth... calling out who is interested. open source. non commercial art and fan project. with current cad and 3D printing we can do a lot these days. since we are not answering to any marketing we have quite some freedom. if some of you want to make requests, why not? if some want to ALTER the buck, we can! no tooling or cost limitations. what can you contribute, feedback is appreciated. pics: white legs: printed ABS standard fig legs, work in progress pink bikini girl: lanard fig, for reference in proportions/style teal bikini girl: 3D printed first pass fig test .swivel arm and o'ring. ultra petite build. not an idealistic supermodel body. i stuck with the shape of the model. i have never done human anatomy/ figure sculpts before. not a suggestion for a joe in any way, I just had to start somewhere. not bad for a day of work. I feel it's too real and not joe enough. it's interesting to do smaller and bigger than average folks. but this project is about the buck or various blank figs we might prefer as a canvas to make joes from. hope this makes sense.

This is fantastic! Any chance of a buck of the modern Joe figures?
Do you have a link to these files?

my signature/thingyverse link is where I upload my files. very buggy site, takes me several attempts to upload files.
it's free, hope others contribute as well soon. so here is an overview using some scans/3d print of REAL people for reference. scaled down to 3 3/4" my first figure is obviously very ughh compared to these , it gives a good reference to develop decent proportions and look while integrating joe articulations. sorry guys, for now I am staying away from modern era in this regard: -staying o'ring. -3 3/4" NOT 4". fit ARAH vintage vehicles and figs 1982-1994. -openable chest with screw. -single joint knees -head and neck in one piece, no gap under chin. -no wrist and ankle joints for now. these real people , kimberly and Yaroslava were free files from https://grabcad.com/mcramblet-1 i am "sculpting" this articulated fig on soliworks then by filing/sanding the print. arms are too long... bear in mind, the files i will upload do not look like these... you'd need to digitally sculpt them or physically shape them like i did

When I was a kid I thought it'd be great if we could make our own figures at home, and now we can. It just amazes me.

It would be ideal to have a model that would be in underwear or in the nude so you wouldn't have to digitally alter to remove the clothing for your Buck figure you want to scan. Just until you work out the kinks. I do love this idea. Sooo much potential with this that anyone and anything can be created! I'd love to see more updates pronto. Keep up the good work my man.

hey! I lost all interest here thinking no-one was into the ol' o'ring buck.
I have my hands full with vehicles but intend on getting back to this. have ideas for new characters...itching me. having a nude buck instead of the wooden mannequin they used to start from is a great idea. check out how Bill Merklein's sculpt for fun here: https://arealamericanbook.com/2015/0...ention-report/ (middle of page) |

I Find it sad that so many folks are boasting their creations on facebook but yet will not share their dimensions.
there seem to be an excessive interest in sculpting boobs and zombies and not much " basics" as far as what are the original buck dimensions. Carson Mataxis was lucky enough to get his hands on one original 2:1 bucks but did not seize the opportunity to scan / measure it and it has been covered by putty into his custom childhood character since. If anybody can share the dimensions of the original buck, please do. I am still trying to find out the exact sphere diameter. thank you |
