I started my build of this a couple of days ago. I'm reviewing each piece as I go and making some custom edits....
Tire #1 is on the printer as I type this. |

This is one of my first designs, over two years ago now. I bet there are some things I need to completely redo. Let me know how it goes.

So I started with black filament - so I have printed 4 tires...the dash/steering wheel. Did some test prints on the wheels/hubs and working on the cab...it's currently on the printer now....not a clean print, but workable.
By the way, I modified the design of the cab to make it a 4 door - I'll let you know how that goes. Just some feedback: Tires printed fine and I didn't modify them. On the dash/steering wheel - it printed fine, but as you know, the steering wheel sticks down below the dash and is a bit thin. Maybe move the steering wheel to a second print and thicken it up a bit? As for the hubs/wheels, I've had a bit of a time getting them to print successfully, mostly because of support issues on my end, I did end up splitting the hub into 2 parts...the hub and what I referred to as the "hubcap" For the cab...I did a fair amount modifications. I'm printing the version that has the doors integrated, but the roof as a separate piece. So I changed the door handles to be more flush with the body, mainly to save time and material. I would say this piece uses a fair amount of support material...I thought about splitting the floor away from the rest of the model and printing the bottom upside down. Another thing to be aware of is that since you are printing the doors in-place - when the print is a few hours in, you have the potential for the doors to "break-away" Maybe add 2 small "retainer" layers spaced out between the bottom of the door and before the hinge starts printing. |

Well, the cab finished printing.....for the most part it printed fine, but came out very brittle....several pieces broke....door hinges, window frames, A pillars.
First time I was using this filament. Oh well, 21 hours of printing down the tube - back to the drawing board. |

You are underextruding pretty badly. Check for clogs and also make sure your extruder isn't slipping due to kow tension on the idler.

My most recent vehicle design was one of the featured projects in the filamentone June Profi box, I want to go back and redo some of my older vehicles but have stayed busy with other projects. If you’re on Twitter I’m Tanner_3D there you can see my current work.

Hey thanks for the feedback!
I did some troubleshooting last night, (I’m new to this) but it seems that my problem was with the new filament. I bought some matte black filament. It feels and looks like the filament ‘crushed’ more while being pushed through the extruder. I changed out the filament, did a small cleaning and it was back to printing normal. Work’s going to be a bit crazy over the next week or so, but I want to take this opportunity and revisit my design (which though the print came out bad, I really like) but I think a couple of things need some small tweaks. Thanks again! Last edited by Lord Vokk; 07-28-2020 at 06:46 AM.. |

Work’s going to be a bit crazy over the next week or so, but I want to take this opportunity and revisit my design (which though the print came out bad, I really like) but I think a couple of things need some small tweaks. Thanks again! Changes so far, 1. New frame system, fewer parts and should be much easier to assemble. 2. New Axles with a beefier peg 3. New Wheels based off my more current vehicle wheels should spin much better 4. Adjustments to the tires to accommodate new wheels and axles 5. Changed up the front clip to print in 3 pieces with optional hinges to make an openable hood. WAY less support when printing. 6. Cut the roof off the cab, again to decrease supports, added angular supporting at the front of the cab which may elimate supports completely, separated the steps on the side of the cab so it will print flat on its bottom, the steps will be optional and can be pegged into the side of the frame. 7. Added some better detail to the grill. Next on the agenda, reworking the doors and their hinge system Remodel the dash and seat area and improve how it is attached in the cab. Rework rear rails to make them easier to print, separate out the gas tanks to peg into the side of the frame Model engine bay detail for those who opt to use the hinged hood. FUTURE additions, Modular rear pieces that will allow it to be built as a transport, flatbed, tanker, or used for pulling trailers. Overall I want the look to stay similar just clean it up a bit with things I've learned in the last two years. Having the vehicle already modeled it's a bit faster to modify than it would have been to start from scratch anyway. Here is a render of where it sits presently:

MVS Heavy Truck refit update...
Trying as I go to not change dimensions on anything vital that way if someone has already started a project they can use pieces they already have in a build it just might require some glue or drilling out a hole a bit. Tires, wheels, axles, frame and front grill, all updated and should be done. A friend on Twitter said he'd like to see dual rear tires, so I modified the new frame pieces to accept two different widths of frame and made some modified narrower axles with wider wheels to accept duals. But you will have the option when printing whether you want to go single or duals in the back, you will just choose some different parts to print. This has been a much bigger overhaul than I originally planned but it's coming along. I said on a stream the other day revisiting an old design can be like running into an old friend and realizing you don't like them much anymore. Slowly but surely the MVS and I are getting re-acquainted.

Well, I have to thank you guys again...for the updates and for diagnosing the under extrusion.
I watched some specific videos on the topic and made some slight tweaks to my printer. WOW, I thought it was printing well before....a couple of tweaks made a noticeable difference! Thanks again!! |
