Greetings all,
I'm trying my hand at a custome job for my son's birthday present. I recently purchased a Motormax Electronic Blackhawk helicopter toy for my son's birthday and decided it needed a repaint and modifications to seat his Joes. I'm aiming for a U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron, CAG Bird style paint job to try and incorporate the Tiger Force into a real world style of paint scheme. First I disassemebled the helicopter and sprayed a primer over the entire body. Then put down a layer of black on the tail. Taped off the black to create the tiger stripes, and put down a layer of yellow. Put down a few layers of Dark Aircraft Grey and touched up the stripes. Had to modify the cockpit to keep the Joes from slipping under the instrument panel, since the figures that come with this helicopter are slightly larger and more bulky than the Joes. Now, with the "firewall" or "Foot stop" added, it should prevent the joes from sliding up and under. I'm still trying to figure out a good method to keep the Joes in the seats and not slide side to side. This is going to be a gift for my 5 year old son, so it has to be a functional fix that a young child can do without breaking or having too much difficulty. Next step will be adding some repro. decals and reassembling it. |

This is looking REALLY cool and I am looking forward to seeing more pics as it gets closer to completion.

Nice! If only the blackhawk had a longer cabin and tailboom, it would have been perfect.
Several coats of clear flat (matte) ought to protect your paintjob and decals... |

Looking good! It really is a great kit with a lot of mod potential, if you're up for it.
Personally, I torn those molded seats out and laid down a sheet of styrene for the floor. |

Thought about it cause I'm really not a fan of the amount of room they take up, and the Joes Can't even sit in the seats without falling out. Maybe if I ever do another one for my other son I'll have a go at removing the seats and reconfiguring the cabin. If I wasn't so pressed for time (birthday rapidly approaching) I was trying to figure out how to mount some crew served weapons in the forward windows.

This suggestion might be low tech but how about using rubber-bands to keep the figures in their seats? 1 small rubber-band around the seat like a seat belt will keep any figure in place. I have done this with my PTE Blackhawk and it works great...

What toy company is that? I like that the smaller windows slide open too.
