Named after the southwest Asian Jungle Cat, this modified Snow Cat has been purpose built to be a drone killer. Ditching the front wheels and going full tracks has been deemed "suitable" by the test and eval department, allowing for increased mobility in sandy "moon dust" climates of southwestern Asia. Eliminating the front wheel also cuts down on maintenance costs, as well as spare parts shipping to austere environments. Only one is known to exist, and requires in field testing before green-lighting more Snow Cats for modification.
Armament: TBD, (some form of remote operated stingers) Cargo: increased load and space due to the deletion of side ski rockets, with addition of storage compartments along both sides. Crew: 2, vehicle Operator/mechanic and a SAM Weapons/radar specialist. So this is my take on the Snow Cat custom. I once painted it green, but since the gijcc came out with the havoc mk II, I decided to change it up. The first pic is a mock up, then you can see where I plan to add the structure for the cargo compartments. I'm going to paint it sand, and go with an OEF scheme. I'm more into a more realistic Joe-verse, and have aspirations of making a bunch of joe vs cobra Afghan style machines. I am currently active duty, but not in the Army, so if I'm misusing or jacking up a term, please educate me. I know aircraft lingo, not the cool ground pounding slang... The tracks are from an early 2kish destro vehicle, the plastic is kind of "rubbery" so I hope it accepts paint/glue, I do plan on riveting it to the chassis for added strength. Nice clean building.
Keep posting. I've been missing a good vehicle wip. |

I will Squash!
Here's a small update, spent about an hour on cargo/LRU area. It's a little crooked in some spots. I have a crooked eye, so the challenge is building to hide my inexperience. Plus I can fix some stuff after it completely cures. I learned a lot from freakingtiger's styrene thread, but this is my first styrene experiment. I've worked a lot with real metal on race cars and this seems comparable, easier in some ways, tougher in others. |

Yeah, cutting three inches of plastic goes much quicker than 3 feet of steel. I enjoy working in full scale, 76 Plymouth Trailduster, but the little feeds my habit and is much cheaper.
Looks great man. |

I never heard of a trailduster before, I googled it, and that's bad@$$! I'm more of a bronco guy but hey, I would rock one of those...
Another update: Spent a couple hours working on the targeting computer and it's shockmount tray. I'm an avionics guy, so this stuff is the kind of detail that I geek out on. I'm going to add a couple more, just need to figure out what/why they would be there. It's tough to make a square box "square", I'm not 100% happy with the outcome, and plan to add some styrene to widen it so the friction of the tray holds it in place, as I want the LRU to be removable. I also goofed on the tray, I tried drilling a circle by hand, but it got dorked up, so I turned it into a square. I wonder if .30 cal brass and a hammer will punch a good circle into styrene? |

Geek away man. I'm enjoying the level of detail you are going with. I admit that I build toys, this is heading into the model world.
Try the brass out and let us know. You could even file it and chuck it in a drill. I have found that for little holes in plastic wood drills work fine, but the larger you go the worse it gets. I use step bits for larger holes. Blood Brigade is the king of snowcat customs and a cool guy. He even has a thread for just snowcat customs. Check it out. |

Thanks, I don't want to get too in depth with it being too "modeley" but I definitely will not let the kids play with this one until they are older. I did a pilot hole with a small drill, but when I stepped it up in size is where I goofed, the styrene wasn't thick enough. I'll have to give the brass a shot, just need to acquire a spent round, left all my ammo in the lower 48 when we moved up here.
I'll do a search for Brigades stuff this afternoon. |

Fixed up the Computer to make it fit the tray, and added some detail to the front. I thought about running cables/wires from the front of the box to the chassis, but I don't want this to get too crazy. I'll just pretend the wiring connection is built in to the back of the tray. I also may have changed my mind somewhat on the concept, I may make this a mobile ground radar jammer, and build the turret into some kind of wicked antenna array, but I also think I should stick to my plan of stinger missiles similar to the army's hmv "avenger" setup.
I could just put my new idea in my pocket and save it for a project down the line. After this I want to re-purpose a Havoc into a cargo hauler, after seeing some of the snow cat/havoc mash ups I got a little inspired to see what I could turn it into. Anyways, I'll probly paint this up in the next couple days as I'm excited to see how it turns out. |

Funny how well a handle and a couple dials alter a simple box. Very cool.
