Update 9/14: Added colored trial. More info coming soon.
Update 9/5: Here is one round of edits completed (updated attachment). A few of the suggestions in this thread will be on the next round. These will include opening up the torso swivel, reversing the hand joints, and narrowing the bicep swivel so it can pop in and out. This is a WIP for a basic modern female figure. A number of modifications are ongoing. These include adding ankle articulation, reworking the hip joints for better aesthetics and flexibility, and reworking the elbow joint to fill in a gap for aesthetics. Let me know what you think and what needs to be improved upon or changed. Last edited by Falcone; 10-08-2016 at 03:21 AM.. |

It's awesome. The only thing I would do different is a hinged neck ball, so she could look up. ( Or forward if she was on her stomach. But as is she is still awesome. I'd buy at least one.

Here's a few issues I think I see in the schematics. Nice sculpt by the way. She looks great.
Issue 1. I'm looking at it and I'm a bit concerned about the upper arms. There's a diagonal space connecting the upper arm to the lower arms before the double jointed elbow. Is that supposed to be a marvel universe style upper arm swivel joint? I don't see the schematics for the joint part connecting the upper arm to that part of the arm. Additionally, if it is a planned marvel universe style upper arm swivel, the slit is diagonal, which means when you rotate it, it might make the arm look weird or move in unintended ways or worse not move at all. Most designers either use a ball shaped top portion to prevent the arm from impeding itself and maintain 360 horizontal rotation across the arm. Example: Kraven marvel universe http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBcYS-5WlW...e_Hunter_9.png OR they use a completely horizontal slit to bypass the problem and try to make the slit as small as possible. This is tricky because even the best manufacturers can mess this up and the arms just keep popping out. Example: BBi figures or UNimax figures (unimax did and still does an amazing job with these slits. BBI figures are older and their arms keep popping out.) http://news.toyark.com/wp-content/up...1235431399.jpg (original article) UNIMAX Forces of Valor Bravo Team 2009 - The Toyark - News If you have no intention of adding a joint there, connect that part back to the upper arm, otherwise that portion of the upper arm is an unnecessary loose part that will have to be glued or connected in some way. Issue 2. I am also concerned about the spacing of the balljoints to the legs. The T-crotch you used to cover up the ball joints at the hip might (and probably will) hinder ball joint hip movement if the spacing isn't just right. Issue 3. I see you have no swivel or up and down joint motion on the ankles. That means that there will be no way to adjust the balance for the figure from the ankles, only the ball jointed hips and the knees will be able to change to balance the figure, meaning the shape and angle her feet are molded in is critical to whether she stands or not. I suggest testing how she is weighted, if she will lean forward or backwards, as well as what position her feet will be in to best prevent her from falling over. Issue 4. You have a wrist joint setup of a standard gi joe wrist articulated figure switched in the schematic. Normally the right hand has up and down motion and the left hand has horizontal left and right motion like on this mouse figure. G.I. Issues 2 and 3 were mentioned in the first post. The ankles still need to be added in and the hips are being opened up more for more movement range. For issue 1, a simple swivel joint is being added to that part. Like how early 25th figure wrists worked. Issue 4, I am really glad you brought that up. It was on oversight. It will need to be reversed. Thank you. |
