What do you do with an old Skystorm?
They arent that popular. They arent that pretty. And the tech is as old as the first helicopter. But what if we brought it up to date? And with that updated the systems. So, I pulled from my junk yard some things I thought would make it a more flexible VTOL. The Skyhawk systems have been proven over the years so why not. And any good chopper pilot should be able to deal with a chin gun system, but what if we put it on top. Larger ammo chamber and brass catch since the rotor will be gone. |

Then it occured to me, I dont have to use JOE tech. I have to make it better.
The Osprey has a good track. So, sized to fit a Skystorm frame should prove very valueable. And the gun systems in place have a proven track record. Flip the programming and they are perfectly usable. I admit, I have something against propellers. Its a power thing I think. The micronized turbine proved more than powerful enough. The wing frame not so much. They will need to be stronger so they arent ripped off in flight. Last edited by loachridge; 04-01-2014 at 05:44 PM.. |

Just adding more wing wouldnt have been good enough. So, to add structural strength, the additional length has been tabbed and screws used for the attachment points.
While having a deeper wing would add more lift, the concept of the rotating engines can be used to facilitate the needs of the pilot. It didnt happen as planned. But, they can be added later if trials prove necessary/ |

So as you can see SciFi is happy with the outcome so far. Before detailing. The cockpit has shows little improvement, as controls and systems are similiar to the original vehicle. What has changed are the systems and logics operating the aircraft.
The 2 micro 500 turbines; mic5; have plenty of power on their own. The original LM2500 has plenty of power to lift this craft. Two shrunken jets simply add to its speed in forward flight. But are mainly needed for lift. The addition and placement of the mic5's are for overall control and stability of the jet during hovering operations. Not a replacement to the Dragonfly, but close. The original LM2500 has been rebuilt using stronger materials and the newest control systems to add to its efficiency and power. This engine on the this frame should make it comparable to the Conquest in speed. Using the Apache software in an inverted mode has allowed us to put these 2 50mm gattling guns on top. Programmed with a dead zone around the mic5 engines and rear control surfaces makes it a perfect combination. Anywhere else the pilot looks this gun can target. Coodination with the pilots skills; SPOILER; and the belly guns make it the most capable targeting system in a jet/helo. |

This is what we get after some detailing.
Bringing out the color in the updated LM2500 was a great thing. Just need to use a better setup to get the difference between the "steel" and the "chrome" Doing the systems in the cockpit has proven very rewarding. You should do this to every vehicle you own. Aircraft have warning lights, indicators, system monitors, and parts of all different shapes and sizes. Making this look appealing worried me but I am happy with the affect. |

Wow, creative use of parts. Great paint work too.
But...isn't that kind of what the Ghost Hawk II is? |

Agreed, the Ghost II is a capable VTOL. It is more of a missile platform that looks like a gunship.
I find the 4 engine wing mount questionable and unstable configuration for hovering maneuverability. They are; like the Rattler; for take off and landing mostly. And while they are 4, turbo fans produce good thrust but lack the speed of a true turbine. It fits it mission specs. And looks nice doing it. Last edited by loachridge; 04-02-2014 at 03:19 PM.. |
