This guy is still very early. most of it isnt glued yet and still have a lot of cross bars and details to finish fleshing it out but all the main pieces are now dug out and it is in active WIP section. getting all the little pieces added in may not happen quickly but it is on a forward momentum. I have been looking at this trouble bubble and mentally hashing out this guy for a few months now just waiting for the moon to be right to get it started.
It will use 2 sky striker wings to make the large rotor. Last edited by Dremel; 02-25-2014 at 01:18 AM.. |

Very ambitious, I've been waiting to see if someone was going to create one of these beasts. I look forward to seeing the finished masterpiece.

Interesting look. Are you basing it off an existing helicopter?

Not exactly, kinda. I went with the basic boxy body design because it is how the early sky cranes were built, though most of those had the cabin on top of the cargo crane.
For example Hughes XH-17 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia So not making a replica of anything but the idea is based of of real and prototype helicopters of the 40s and 50s I decided to move the pilot down on the front to make it a bit lower profile like the new Sky Cranes are. |

Will be interesting to see the finished product. These heavy lift cargo copters are my favorite types.

The build is coming along. I added a control deck for the crane operation behind the cock pit. I am currently building a troop box that will mount in the cargo area. It will have removable benches so it can be used for troops or other lose cargo including vehicles. It really is getting close to being paint ready.

More pics.
These pics show the payload control deck directly behind the cockpit. Also the debut of the removable troop box. The troop box will click in place in front and be latched in back, It will have an opening ramp at the back. It will have removable benches down both sides and down the middle will be a removable rack that will hold 20+ standing troops. All of these troop pieces will be removable to allow an open box for loading jeeps or tanks. You can't really see it but it has the Tomahawk Crane in the center of the ceiling its also has 8 load hooks that can have cables hooked to them for hauling hanging loads. It still has quite a bit of work left but at the same time it should be paint ready soon. |
