When I was a kid in NJ in the early 80s, my Dad would take me to New York City EVERY Sunday. We'd take a bus or the subway into the city, walk around window shopping for awhile, have lunch, go to Barnes & Noble (if I was good I would get a paperback book of my choosing) and then we'd end the day off with a movie.
I can't tell you how many of the classic films I saw IN the theatre! Star Wars Trilogy, Escape from New York, Indiana Jones Trilogy, etc... I also can't tell you how many cheesy (but still awesome) movies we saw, too! One of these was "Warrior of the Lost World". This sci fi film was made in Italy. Some italian production company had a poster drawn up. Then they hired filmmaker David Worth to write it based on the poster! No joke! MST3K did a legendary show on this movie and it's available on DVD. Basically, the story is about a loner, called "The Rider" who travels the Apocalyptic Wasteland on his supersonic speedcycle (a custom BMW bike) named "Einstein". The evil bad guys are called "The Omega" and they basically kill everyone. So, they pursue the Rider, who gets injured escaping from them. He is saved by the "Healers" and they recruit him to help them against the Omega. It was your typical 80s "Road Warrior" clone (and there were A LOT). Since this cheese-fest has always been very close to my heart, I wanted to make Einstein and the Rider in GI Joe scale. This is how I start: At first I planned to use the Silver Mirage, but it's fairing is too small. PLUS, I had this as a kid and remember thinking it was a piece of crap since it was so loose and fell apart if I looked at it too hard. SO... no go. After searching for hours for 1/18th scale motorcycles (with large fairings AKA cowlings), I see that there are none available. Until I stumbled upon this... a Playmobil Racing Bike. Snagged it on eBay, 4 bucks plus 4 shipping. Not bad. So, it finally gets here and it's too small and narrow. I cut & sanded the bottom, heated it up and slightly spread it open a bit. I wanted to use it on Mutt's motorcycle, but it's too small. Tried it on some Maistos I have. No dice... SO the search continues. I may need to sculpt it, but I've never done it before! IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH THIS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Just for a goof, I tried it on the Rip It Attack motorcycle and I think there is some potential there! Not for Einstein, but for a seperate custom. Maybe just add a windshield?! I will be making The Rider out of a 30th Joe body, ultimately, but just to get a feel for the character I started messing around. Since the Rider is a scruffy mess and his hair is slightly red, for now I put an Obi Wan head on a Mutt body and threw a Power Team utility belt on him. I'm going to paint the sci fi helmet all silver. PLEASE COMMENT! GOOD OR BAD!

I'm a big fan of the old B movies. I actually have this on DVD. Great quick custom. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I love that someone made this, and if this was mass produced item I would buy it. I would buy it like I would a Mego Zap Rowsdower and a BAF Johnny long torso.

Well, I decided to sculpt the fairing out of Quiksteel Epoxy and chopping up a cheap power team bike as a test run. I never did this before, so it will be a real challenge!
And Megaweapon... Oooooh! A really big truck that shoots fire!

Thanks for sharing all this with us. Never even heard of this movie but that poster's bad ass and I love the idea of them creating a whole movie off a poster. What?!? And that Obi Wan head looks unexpectedly awesome on Mutt's body. Looking forward to seeing how everything turns out!

I remember that art, probably seen through the hazy plastic of a worn VHS case at some local video rental place. Can't recall the movie, but I'll be interested to see your finished custom!
