I was talking Scale wise...the Barracuda is a 1 man Submarine... Scale wise this Hull would be about Patrol Boat size...not much bigger than a Moray.. in the end it may be a bit undersized.

Wow that looks cool. Maybe you can turn it into a PT boat or something. Great idea!!!

Hey Folks,
Thanks again for the comments, I appriciate them. I wish I can show you more, but I am on hold while waiting for the deck cannon to arrive from e-bay. Having that in hand will steer me in the right direction on this build. I did decide to lengthen the boat by cutting it in half and use thick styrene to lengthen the hull. I figure total length will be more like 4ft. This project just took on a whole nother twist. I decided to build/ assemble another USS Flagg playset. This time around I am changing some things in the initial design. For starters, I want to lengthen the hull and deck to include an aft elevator and lengthen the run on the bow of the ship. By doing this, I can reset the scale of the destroyer to be longer and stay closer to scale with the Flagg. Some of the Flagg pieces (the bow and parts of the supper structure) will be here today . Other pieces like the stern will be here before the 10th. Also, I found someone who is willing to trace out the deck pices onto butcher paper for me so I have a template of the original deck to work from while I do the redesign. The Carrier Strike Group project is the most epic venture I have taken on and I am going to have so much fun working on it. Until next time folks.

In addition to the deck gun, I am going to make a The Phalanx CIWS kit. This kit will cover the two that will go on the Destroyer as well as upgrading the USS Flagg. I will be making a mold and cast the kit for each of the ships and then make some avaible for the community so anyone else wants to upgrade thier carriers. I also plan on making a RIM-7 Sea Sparrow kit for the Flagg as well.

Hi everyone,
It's been a little over a year since my last update on this part of the massive Carrier Strike Group, but I am glad to say progress has been started. Like any good project, planning is key to success. After studying the USS Destroyer toy and verious Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer, I came to realize that just replacing the current island was not good enough. A total redesign was needed. I made an outline drawing of the original destroyer toy and cut it out as a template. I did some quick math and determined to get everything I need and still achieve most of the asthetics of the real destroyer, I had to make the ship 4 ft long (an increase of 12 inches from the original toy). Also the hight of the hull was increased to 4.75 inches (an increase of 2 inches), which will allow figures to stand in the hull. The ship's islands were designed using a Shipwreck figure for scale. The landing pad was designed to fit a Sky Hawk, anything else would make the ship too big next to the Flagg. Here is the first draft picture: I layed the drawing on a table and started to place items of interst like missiles storage, room interior assigments (radar room, comm room, bridge, CIC, and engine room). After laying the pieces out, I reallized I had extra space on the landing pad and I needed to shift the islands around and make the bridge area larger. Here is the final layout design of the destroyer. Figures and props were used to show scale and design layout: So what's next: - based on the paper layout design, I will be making a 3D model using foam board. - Once the model is built and tweeks are made (if any), I will then move to sculpt the hull on the old toy frame. - Make a mold of the newly sculpted hull and make a cast of it. - Using Styreen sheets, build the deck and islands basically scratch build the destroyer. - Make a mold of the original toy's anchors, USS FLagg: missiles, bridge controls, radar controls, radio control, anything else I can think of - Make and mold a CIWS That's it for now, construction of the foam board model was started last night. Stay tuned for more updates.

Looks great Ben. I am interested in seeing how this project turned out since I just bought a destroyer at the flea market for $7. It is incomplete and my intention was to make it compatible to the 4" joes. Can't wait to see the end result.

I'm a plankowner (first crew) on a Burke Flight 2A destroyer. If you need any information about this class destroyer I would be happy to help out.

Hello everyone,
I have an update for you all on the USS Destroyer redesign project. I have spent the last few days feverishly putting together a mock up of my design using foam board. I figure I am over 50% there with her. I got down the basic shape so far and I am liking how this is turning out. Keep in mind, this is no way representing any true scale to the real deal. Just a simple playset/ vehicle for action figures. Now that I got that out of the way, on with the pictures that you all love so much. First picture is the overview of the ship: Next is the bow section. I had to split the shots for close ups. Last is the stern section of the boat. OK, lets talk about the bridge. There is plenty of space for instruments and figures. I figure I can make a mold of the Flagg's controls and cut them to fit in the bridge area. A few other items will need to be custom built like the helm station. Behind the bridge is the first smoke stack/ radio room. Just like the bridge, I will open this area up to place the radio station (will need to cast and cut to fit). Next is the stern smoke stack/ radar room. Again a mold and cast of the radar control from the Flagg will go in there. Of course, at the stern is the landing pad. As you can see, the Sky Hawk fits nice and snug with a little walk way on either side. I would think some of the Chap Mei helicopters could land on it as well as the locus. Below deck, I was thinking of making 3 spaces between the two missile areas. One being the CIC, next a Sick Bay, and last an engineering room. The spacing in the photo is not right as the engineering piece is extended into the missile area. Worse case is that I drop the sick bay play feature. I will know more as I move forward. I have an idea for the mid ship area. I was thinking the crane from the Tactical Battle Platform to represent the crane that lowers the rafts. And speaking of rafts, I was thinking of using the Chap Mei single seat rafts that comes part of a vehicle playset like the helicopter or the submarine. Should be small enough to fit on the side of the ship and the crane can put them in the water. Anyways, just wanted to get these pictures out there and put down some of my thoughts. I still need to figure out how or what I am going to use to make the mast. Thanks again for the comments and for the cheer squad, stay tuned for more updates.
