Just showing something I was screwing around with yesterday while waiting for a couple of layers of paint to dry on our bannisters. This is my first try actually using spray paint for something like this, but Canadian Tire had a sale and I figured I'd give it a shot. So be gentle!
(I already know that I screwed up and didn't paint one of the panels on the nose. And I didn't have enough guts to paint the cockpit.) I didn't have the tools to cut out the co-pilot's cockpit like others have done, but luckily enough the original 25th Scarlett is small enough to fit in the chopper. I tried Pilot Scarlett, but by virtue of being a better-proportioned figure she's actually much harder to squeeze into the seat. Realistically, the only thing I didn't like are the black highlights on what I thought were the air intakes on the front of the engines. I couldn't really save those. Well, and the fact that the chopper didn't QUITE click back into place perfectly; there's one screw that I forgot to put back, but I'll be damned if I could figure out where it came from. That probably accounts for the looseness. Anyone have any recommendations on which Cobrastickers set to use? The original Dragonfly's the obvious choice, but I could also see using one of the RoC XH-1's sets (Resolute would be my first pick). Last edited by GeoffDes; 07-28-2014 at 09:03 AM.. |

pretty good, Although if that nose section bothers you and the structure isn't as tight as you would like, just take it apart and add a second coat, trust me, having made quite a few vehicle customs in the last couple of years it will bother you every time you play with it or display it if you don't ( since you mentioned it now its on your mind) and once you spend cash on stickers and put them on it you wont want to tear it apart. Now is the time to send it back to depot. It looks like a good plan executed pretty well for a first custom. You could cover up that panel with a decal ...but like I said it will always bug you and before it gets that far along I would just disassemble and hit it again.
It looks good enough that it makes me want to do one now. What color did you use? |

And thinking about it more, it might not be that the fit's bad, it could be that there always was a panel gap and the combination of my cracking the case open loosening the tolerances with the fact that it's no longer black (I didn't spray the "join" sides of the body panels) means that the line's more visible. I think I'll go with the tape-and-spray method (after I get rid of the cockpit) to fix that area. I'm worried that I'll strip the screws if I undo and redo it one more time. |

Looks good. I wish the Apache just came in green so it wouldn't have to be painted. If it came in green, I might pick one up.

Believe me, if MY lazy, do-nothing ass could get this done, it's not that hard.
(Not sure if I said it in the original post, but the Apache's being clearanced out of TRU Canada. So you may not have much of a chance to grab one.) Last edited by GeoffDes; 07-28-2014 at 01:36 PM.. |

Spraypainting terrified me, though. I think I kept the coats light enough, but that wasn't fun since the margin for error is apparently zero with this particular brand of paint. Next up is camo-ing that C130.... |

Looks good man! I've been into TRU so many times and walk by this heli and every time i want to buy it, but the quality of the mold and plastics, has me scared abit. I hate to buy and return it if it sucks and doesn't compliment my Joes.

My only real complaint continues to be that the chin gun is pretty halfassed. I tried my best to marker it into something decent, but you'd have to double it in thickness to make it really impactful. I dug around for some other weapons to mod in there, but nothing really worked. But, yeah, if you get if for under $25 it's a pretty fair value (it's slightly longer than the Eaglehawk). I came *thisclose* to just painting the missiles red and turning it into a giant FANG. Oh, one question for the floor: what the hell is that clear police-light-like structure aft of the main propeller? It looks like it's leftover from some light-up feature that was stripped out.
