The "Badger" was used in close combat and for infantry support. The few built were at a TACOM facility in Virginia. Used uparmored HMMWV's and the 25mm main chain gun canned from damaged LAV's. Modifications were made to the chassis and mechanical equipment to support the turret and additional weight of operating equipment and ammunition.
Resource constraints placed on the military during the alien invasion limited mass production of modified, existing weapon systems. The "Badgers" were limited in number. Most were sent into combat zones in South Eastern US where they were desperately needed. It was not uncommon to see militia forces employing "Badger's". Militia used in recon, defense, and hit-and-run operations against alien forces. Militia and military units would do infield modifications; adding additional armor or sandbags for additional protection in area where the fighting was most intense. It was welcome site to militia forces who were engaged in fighting in the occupied US southeast. The the heavier fire power could easily take out invader troops and potentially light vehicles. cool idea, reminds me of Vietnam gun trucks, they used a 5 ton 6x6 with an M113 with tracks removed mounted on the bed with a turret on it, they wer like modern MRAP truks in their day, used um for convoy protection, just like MRAPS today, I like it Man!!

I like the direction of this but I would make one suggestion...add a cylinder beneath the turret

Nice work. I like this custom a lot - what was referred to in the early days of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars as 'Mad Max' or 'Hillbilly' armor. I will tell you that as a mechanic, it made our jobs really difficult to work around the sandbags and added steel plates. But the custom work here is very clean. Any additional tweaks you plan on adding?

Thanks minstrelboy for your comments!! I understand what you are referring to. Upgrading the armor on the HMMWV's was a big issue. Its odd that you see these modifications to vehicles in Vietnam and WWII. Afghanistan/Iraq war was no different especially with the HMMWV's. This project; I'm still completing the uparmor of the HMMWV. Went with M1167 model (supposedly a heavier version then the M1097; not sure how true this is but was what could find online). Also figured the Avenger had turret mounted stinger system then I could probably push the limits with the LAV turret. Stripped out the rear seating. Mainly a 3 manned vehicle (could carry more but little room with the ammo. Adding armor plate shutters to the windshield. Finishing the doors and adding or modifying the rear door. Finish the gunner station (controls). Add LED's. Paint, weather, add some damage and finished. |

Bro, this is sick work! the amount of detail is insane. I love this thing. I specially like how the doors came out. The windshild is gonna look awsome with the armored plate shutters.
