i let the cat out of the bag in the Python Patrol Appreciation thread. I've finally begun my Python Patrol Sky Striker! all it took was some creative inspiration in doing some more PP smaller customs.
i gave everything that would be painted a base coat of Krylon Fusion Satin Burgandy. i know some don't like the Krylon rattle cans but they work fine for me. i put a good 2 coats on all of the parts which took almost an entire can. it was not easy masking off the wheels but i got it done. painted, retracted and now i can't get them out without tearing the mask tape and don't want to do that again so just leaving them closed until the striping is done. i've spent a good number of days going over how i wanted this to look in my head. what was going to be solid color, whats going to be striped... i don't want the entire thing covered with the pattern, going to need some solid color portions to break it all up. that and i don't think i could mask the striping cleanly around all the curved surfaces. while deciding what do do with the stock stickers, i though it would be a cool treat to reuse some of the stock iconic stickers like the nose stripes so i'm using them as templates and tracing them to mask tape and will have them ghosted in sort of as they will remain the base burgandy color. it's tedious work bu i think it will have a nice look to it. likewise i need a place to terminate the striping at the base of the nose section so i masked this section off to remain the base color and a small portion of full black. some of my past PP customs; PP Sky Hawk PP Mobat PP Armadillo

Dude, its going to be sick!! You are setting the bar pretty high with the detail you are putting into it. I can't wait to see how your decal idea works out.

we'll see... could end up a mess. think PP meets low visibility sky striker. i'm calling it a night with the nose stripes and going to pick up tomorrow with the continuation of masking off the underside of the main body that extends from the bottom of the nose section. when i'm happy with that i'll move on to the pattern masking on the nose section. i want to set that direction so when i get to the main body and wings the pattern is all going the same direction as much as possible. thats really the hardest part in doing the mask work by hand vs. using the jersey mesh method. i happen to prefer doing it the hard way

Yeah, I think your way is the hard way, but you get cleaner lines out of it. I have been tempted to try it but Im so familiar with my way I don't want to start over. When I get my PP Skystriker done in a month or so we will have to do a comparison. I wish I had pics of the one I did a few years back.

i'm going to ghost in the jey intake stickers as well
you can see the continuation of the top most nose section stripe that will continue over to the main body.
