Can't wait to see this finished! I'm excited just seeing the step by step pics. Since I moved out of my house and into an apartment I no longer have anywhere to spray paint vehicles. I miss all my Krylon Fusion cans. Most I've been able to do is clearcote a few things on my balcony.

cool tip on the technique. i may have to do that myself. i have to paint in the basement stairs to the back yard. it's the only place i was given permission to do so. if it rains, i just hold an umbrella. when it snows, i have to jump in and out quick which is the up side to using cardboard for a tray so i can pick it up and move it back in side quickly. i've painted in the poring rain, snow storm, sub freezing temps, etc. only time i can't paint is when the winds are high causing whirl winds in the stairs sucking the paint right away before it even hits the plastic.
i really do like the process and enjoy sharing it. i won't like, it can be a real chore at times but in general, it's a great way to release the stress from a week of working 50-60 hour week.

4 hours later, i finished the pattern in one direction on the nose cone. the tricky parts are getting around things like the missile stanchions.

Beautiful. I see where you're going with this now.
What a gargantuan job. Can't wait to see the rest of the hull done. |

finished the nose cone masking! turned out nicely i think.
it was a bit tricky to get the continuation of the pattern to the main body. there isn't a lot of room for big fingers. i also took the opportunity to shave some plastic away from wing areas to reduce paint wear at the pivot areas. it's still going to happen i'm sure but i shaved enough away with an xacto knife that it moves freely now.

Astounding. Didn't you consider taking the wing roots out for painting?

The work you are putting into this is amazing. And it looks fantastic, all those years of painting RC cars has given you some serious skills. Its going to pay off big time.

i never even tried after reading so many of the posts about the main body being sonic welded together. i'm not going to go through all that trouble dremeling it apart. thats why i'm not one of those amazing customizers that are modifying the body, etc. i'm just a run of the mill repainter, not serious customizer. my stuff just doesn't compare to the stuff those guys are doing.
