So I've been working a bit on a custom figure and I've been wondering. If I wanted to make something like this what type of putty or materials could I use.
I'd like the peace of gear to be somewhat flexible. Ideally the gear would end up as flexible (or a little more) as the vests on the Cobra vipers or comic pack Firefly. I've also considered making one from cloth or my last choice would be just making it a part of the figure. Also I've looked at places like marauder and other such custom G.I.Joe size weapon and gear sights and none of them make anything like what I'm looking for so I'll need to make this myself.

you can try useing rubber tape. I use it all the time for that kind of stuff. All you have to do is be creative with it. Useing a glue gun is the best way to keep it together. I found the stuff at home depot for 2.50 and I've been useing for about a year. It's how I did the harness on my hit and run figure.

To do the loops, you can use the same method but add craft wire to the inside before gluing so you can mold it the way you want. Or, use green stuff over the tape to add detail. |

If I were you, I would use Green stuff. It dries pretty hard but still is flexible in the thinner areas.
GW Online : News : Convershun Klinic : Working With Green Stuff Here is a tutorial on using the stuff from Games Workshop. It is about 10 bucks for just a few onces but you would probably be able to get 2 or 3 vests out of that much. Sculpting it can be a bit of a pain but just keep water handy and a decent set of small tools around and you should be fine.
