I have never been a fan of the joe stands so I usually have them just standing on the shelf or in some sort of dio base. So I decided to try my hand at making a textured stand. This is the first one I have tried. My town has lots of bricked sidewalks so that is what I went with.
Unpainted, not real impressive. I wasn't sure how it would come out. With some paint it started to look not too bad. I am still not 100% happy with it, the white from the underbody keeps showing through. Next time I need to prime the surface before I start painting so it doesnt wipe off. And being used. So what do you think? And guys who can paint throw me some pointers. Last edited by Asphalt; 11-15-2010 at 01:40 PM.. |

I agree about the unpainted, it is unimpressive. But painted, it looks sharp. I really like it.
My only question is: it doesn't look like there's a peg to keep him sturdy. Is there and I'm just missing it? I also question the use of a round stand. It seems like if it was square you could do more with it in dios and whatnot. The IDS stands at Marauder are kind of like puzzle pieces, which is awesome. I definitely like the idea you've got, but the execution needs some work.

Have you seen the Hex stands that come with the "OurWar" figures? I think that shape is pretty awesome for a stand, it allows the stands to dock together and it has a decent amount of space for details.
As for your stand, i think the brick looks good..I would love to see a textured asphalt one. I think it looks good, just the round shape that irks me a little. I agree w/ JayBeane about the peg though...it looks pegless. It needs at least one peg.... |

There is not a foot peg. I rolled the slab too thin to hold it in. It is a circle because that is the first pattern I saw. I didnt really see this as going into a dio, so the shape wasn't a real big concern for me. If I was going to do them so they were in a set, I would probably either made them square or similar to johns and puzzle like. That is a thought for the future though. I could also roll a giant slab and go that way with it.

Well I like it a lot! I actually prefer the round stands cause you can place them diagonally close to eachother than squares...The only thing I would change would be the color. I would paint them grey. Would make it look less like bricks and more like cobblestones.

They are modeled after the street here in town so I went with red. Dang historic district. I was just informed that I can get a bag of pegs from diorama. So I think that is the way I will go. Drill holes and then put the pegs where I end up needing them.
This second one I rolled thicker so a peg could be added. It is pretty much unpainted. I just rubbed some gray in to get a photo. The smooth white doesn't shoot well at all. |

Which leads me to a random question about your store. I've been trying to reef some of Gene's Resolute holsters, but it will only let me add one to the cart...? Are you out at the moment or something?

I sent you a PM JB, I like the second one more too. I wanted to do a street, but I couldnt figure out what to add to make it look like a street. Then it hit me. Manhole. And this one is thick enough that I could add pegs to it. This one is also quite a bit bigger, as you can see. Ironically though, I cant figure out how to paint asphalt, and get it to look like asphalt. It just comes out black.
