Hi fella's, just a quick question with regards to the paint you use when customizing. I generally use Tamiya acrylic but am finding it goes a little patchy when it dries. And although the black gives a good coat, the grey's, yellows, reds etc are quite watery.
I don't really use primer or undercoat. Help a brother out, what paints/techniques are you using? |

When I first started using the Tamiya colors I thought the same thing. I spoke to the guy I was buying them from and found out that you really need to stir them to get a lot of the goop from the bottom of the jar to mix in. Don't shake them.
I also used Testors Model Masters and it seemed like the Tamiya paint needed more coats to cover the way I wanted it to. Overall, I like the Tamiya paint better. Model Masters is ok but I find the Tamiya to be more durable. |

Cheers mate, appreciate the advice. How did you find it once you stirred it? Did it come up nicer?

Honestly, the difference was night & day. Stir it up for a good minute or more and you'll see what I mean.
I've been using the missiles from the ROC missile launchers because I don't have any other use for them. Don't use a toothpick, its not wide enough. Craft sticks work well, too. |

I use a brush to stir the crap out of it. With the stuff on the brush I put onto a pallet which I use to dip so I don't contaminate the paint jar

The guy I buy paint from mentioned that about contamination. Does it really matter or make that much of a difference?

You don't want the oils off the figure going into the jar. It really screws the paint up. It's the same as using house paints. Always use a work pot. Save empty jars to use for mixing for flesh tones or any other mixes
