Hello All,
So I've been trying to refine my molding and casting and need some information. After finally fixing my leaking pressure cooker pot I'm ready to go but need some suggestions. The method I'm using is where I have a pressure cooker pot and an air compressor hooked up to it. I'm trying to get 30psi within the pot while the mold or mold with resin is in the pot. I'm not sure if I do this just when I'm making the mold or also when I place the now cured mold with the casting resin in it. The idea is that the steady pressure will eliminate bubbles in the mold and the resin but I can't seem to exactly "nail" this. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on this? Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone can give. Dave |

Dave you need pressure on the molds when you fill with resin, and 30 psi will be fine. You also should try squeezing the mold a bit to try and get any lil bubbles out. are you injecting or pouring?

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the info. I'm pouring the resin into the mold. I'm creating the mold by propping up the head (just starting with these for now) with some clay and then placing a metal rod over it. (I've also tried making a two part mold but ran into some problems with that, however I may try that again). Then I'm pouring in the mold making compound. Then I pull the head out once the mold has cured. Then I'm pouring the resin into the opening left by the removed head. So far I've had bubbles in bad places and also missing entire jaws etc of some casts. So the 30psi is only for the point where the resin is poured into the mold not in the actual curing or construction of the mold? Thanks for the help ! |

I'm trying to get into casting my own stuff too but I'm just starting so any info on methods, the best materials, etc would be greatly appreciated!
Maybe someone could do a tutorial!

Thanks for asking this question. I've been considering getting a pressure cooker too but before I do that I'd like to make sure I'm using the correct molds, plastic, etc. Anyone with a link to a comprehensive guide to molding and casting would be my hero.
