I'm thinking about how to fit a 25th/ROC waist and legs to an Elite Force figure to give improved lower body articulation. Has anyone done this before (or something similar with a different figure line) and are there any links around?
Thanks. |

What exactly are you trying to do? Just attach the top swivel upper torso to some other peg, or attach the entire upper/lower torso piece?
I've used both lower/upper torso parts and attached them to pelvis/legs from other lines like Star Wars. Since you have the torso articulation in place, you can just cut the two areas apart and glue them together.

Like starwarsgeek said, you can use a dremel to cut the waist at the belt line to glue it. I have actually one the other way and used a few wrestling figures upper torsos with Joe lower torsos.

Yes, I fit the waist and legs from a Destro to the body of an Indiana Jones German motorcycle rider/soldier to create my Arctic Destro.
I took an Exacto saw and sawed Destro just above the belt line. I pulled the leg and crotch section from the German Soldier and sawed just below the waist. This left me with Destro's crotch and legs and the piece from the German's waist. The Destro crotch section had perfect space for me to glue/putty the other piece from the German. I had to trim the piece from the German to fit, but once it did I just glued it in and then used a little compound for extra stability. When it cured/dried I just popped the German body onto the connector piece that is now glued/puttied to the Destro crotch. I lost the chest movement because the German didn't have that articulation, but the waist does rotate 360 degrees with no problem. A photo of the finished product can be seen in my albums. I hope this helps.

I used dusty from the DVD pack with a starwars figure because of his extra waist articulation. All it took was a utility knife and crazy glue.

I'll also dig out some Star Wars figs and see how their articulation compares and see if the other comments can be applied here. Many thanks all, will let you know how I get on |

Right, so I've selected a Desert Duke as the likely hip and leg transplant victim ;)
I've attached photos of what the bottom half of my bbi Elite Forces figure looks like. There's not all that much room to graft one onto the other, but I think I should be able to chop off the Elite Forces figure hip peg + the tops of his legs, glue it all together (to avoid the leg tops rotating) and graft that all onto Duke's hips (after they are cut from the rest of his lower torso). I've never actually pulled a 25th GI Joe to bits, so this should be a learning experience |

Well perhaps Desert Duke was a poor choice for my first attempt to dismantle a figure, it was a bit of a PITA.
I tried the sock + vice method + hair-dryer to pre-heat, but really it didn't seem to be doing anything much, and the entire figure was tending to suddenly slip round - I guess people must use some sort of chocks on either side to prevent this. Anyway, as I wasn't too bothered about the upper torso I thought I'd try some of the other methods: * Screwdriver up the back of the upper torso and twist, started to see white stress lines appearing on the plastic and didn't seem to give so stopped that. * Exacto under the armpit - this is what I did in the end, but it was pretty hard and Duke's underarm is pretty knackered as you can see in the photos I've attached. I'm not sure how it could have been done better, the levering really did most of the damage and it wasn't until I'd made a cut & twist to the back of the neck that it finally popped open. Anyway, the result is that I now have some legs, though the waist attachment is a bit too high - not so high that I think I'll need to do the IJ-style mod though thankfully. I've attached a pic of the legs side by side and with them touching the new upper torso, note that I've not pressed them in so they will go up another 2-3mm, but that still looks a bit funny - it might work (i.e. hide it) with some hip packs, but the legs then still look a bit short for the torso length. Anyway I'm planning to remove a couple of mm of plastic from the inside of the Elite Forces figure and they should slot right in and while he'll be taller than he was originally, it should then look fine. Fingers crossed anyway |

I don't think this is meant to be... that last shot, his torso ends up way too long.
