I just went to a hobby shop about a week ago because they had a selection of Model Master Acryl paints.
I took four home and three ended up being gloss. I had to use it in order to find out. Just for looking I can't tell the flats from the glosses. There are no markings or a little "(F)" or "(G)" on the bottles. Even trying to find them on the site is an aggravating chore. You can't just "sort by finish" you have to wade through page after page looking for the color you want then rolling you mouse over it to find out it's not what you need. I beg you if you use Model Master Acryl paints, and also find this a terribly annoying problem as I do please contact them and ask them to fix these problems. [email protected] Here is the email I sent. copy and paste it if you like. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Hello and thank you for your time. I just bought three "Model Master Acryl" paints from a local hobby shop and did not find out they where gloss until I opened one to use it. There are no markings on the bottles to signify that it was gloss or flat. I highly suggest you start putting a "F" or "G" or "SG" on the labels to help avoid this confustion. Also, it's a bit difficult to locate only the flat paints on your web site. I ask that you please consider adding a function to sort by flat gloss or simi-gloss. Hunting through the pages looking for only flat paints is a bit tedious. Please take these requests into consideration. Once again, thank you for your time. |

I use Model Master Acryl Paints too. I know a lot of them will say if they are Gloss or Flat on the back label. But you are right many of the various colors do not say for certain if they are Gloss or Flat.

Tamiya is the same way. I bought a bottle of brown and it came out really shiny. Some say Flat on the bottle, most don't.

Yeah, I always buy with caution or ask the clerk, that way it's on the store if I have to bring it back for being mis-informed. Speaking of I have to go p/u another bottle of Tamiya flat black spray for plastics so I can paint my last HISS tank.

This is what they make DullCote for. Also, check Polly Scale for really good brush on flat, matte, or gloss clear finishes. Tamiya also makes a dead flat base to mix with gloss colors to make them matte.

i really hate that. but it actually has worked out to my advantage a few times
what i really hate is this one shade of brown i use. everytime i've bought it, i've had a problem. it's always clumpy and hard to apply, so i've decided to stop using it since i've had 3 bottles of it all turn out the exact same |

At $3.50 or more a pop... That's why I stick with quality craft acrylics and dull/gloss coat.
