I saw these awesome "Steampunk" Starwars customs on the interweb today and was wondering if anyone has tried any Steampunk versions of Joe's or their vehicles before??? I'm a sucker for alternate timelines/reality.
Thoughts? Ideas? Discuss! In the mean time, check these out. http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/04/11/...ction-figures/ Last edited by Kthakkar; 04-11-2008 at 10:51 AM.. |

No - But I LOVE STEAMPUNK! Great idea. Unfortunately, I'm not really customizing my 25th Joes anytime soon - I'm waiting for enough time to pass that I can pick up parts off of ebay for a reasonable price. I just don't have it in me to break up these new figures...
I would love to see some of the Joes from the Dreamwave GI Joe/Transformers WWII timeline series. They looked freaking awesome - dunno why that wasn't more popular. I'm a WWII buff, and a lot of the uniforms and vehicles and equipment from that era were so great looking. Those customs are fantastic - especially Darth Vader and the Storm Trooper. |

Don't get me wrong. I love the classic joes with their slightly advanced military attire. I was there in 82 as were most of you. But as a supposed adult I picture my custom universe of joes and other humanoid types existing in a mad max/ firefly(serenity) type of world. Maybe even a mix of megaforce. Of course, cyborgs, androids, and robots are also a big part of my world. I think this steampunk thing is cool and some of it even reminds me of the 'nok pics that I've seen from devil due. Why is the buzzer figure more of a "wasteland" style figure anyway? Besides the colors, the pads/armor make it different than the original.

I've been kicking around a few ideas for this world and hopefully i can crank some decent sketches out soon. Right off the top of my head I see the Joe's having a very civil-war/cowboyesqe look to them (being real American heroes and all), Cobra to have a sort of WW1 German overtone, and the Dreadnoks to be Pirates.
I've only had a few ideas for individual characters... Major Bludd I see as having a kaiser style helmet with the point on top, his left arm to be covered in a classical "suit of armor" style, Silver and battle warn. And his dog-tags replaced with a number of "Olympic" style medals. Dr. Mindbender I see as Dr. Frankenstein basically. Shirtless like the '86 version but with an unbuttoned, weathered white lab-coat instead of a cape. Maybe a medical bag with a bunch of creepy devices. Destro in a Count Dracula type garb with a solid iron mask, maybe with a grated mouth piece (ala silence of the lambs) and a visible pad-lock on the neck. Tomax and Xamot I see in very Victorian royal suits with powder wigs and such. Serpentor I see as an Egyptian Pharaoh And... thats about it so far. |

I have this visual of the B.A.T.s in my head that looks awesome... I'll have to see if I can sketch out something. The idea of WWI era sounds like it would be the most ideal. Remember the Wild Wild West movie? As dumb as it was, a lot of the visual designs from that were pretty great.

You know this theme is pretty cool.
The ones I was knocking around in my head were a little different. It was more GI Joe thrown into established fiction like in the Half Life world or put in the same setting as the movie Children of Men. Stories where the newly created world can co-exist. I was also kicking around some ideas of making these characters WW2 themed as well. But I might try some Steampunk stuff or maybe just go with a verne/lovecraft theme. |
