i dont understand why one would have to switch a shoulder swivel out anyway. cant you just use the one that the figure came with? i dont get it.

I don't swap swivels, I simply sand down all the joints on the shoulders, elbows and ankles where the swivels will rub against the parts to eliminate that. no wrong choice on which technique you prefer. switching the swivels simply allows you to avoid having to sand down the parts for the most part. |

sure, but then you run the risk of the paint chipping when you repaint the arms. in this case, he knew he wanted the sleeves black so he used a black swivel and then painted the sleeve -- no paint chipping.

Yeah, but then by his own admission he ended up "grind[ing] down the Snake Eyes swivel a little to make it match the profile of the shipwreck arm". He could have done that with the white swivel of the Shipwreck arms to begin with. So now I really don't get what the point was! If you're just going to sand down the swivel anyway, why bother with the swap?

I'm going to tell myself it was done for the purposes of a tutorial just to show how it would be done in the case that you don't plan to sand down the swivel
<--Uneventful 500th post, btw I just checked back in and find all these people who don't get it. It's funny that the long time customizers that I've known for a while do understand. Maybe it's an experience thing? Anyway, the black swivel was just a bi-product that I put to use. What I really needed was the white swivel to go on my custom 25th Wet Suit, which I built before the DOCI set was announced. As you may or may not know, it takes several coats of white to get a good opaque coverage, even with high quality paint (I use a pollyscale white). Sometimes paint will rub off, no matter how much you prep.

You could "pin" them back in and glue that all up but again - not much room to work with, just glue alone on an elbow joint after cutting it(and articulating it once back together) won't last long.

Depends on the glue you use, the elbow joints are almost half the size of the shoulder joints so gluing this all back together with half the space to do it and expect the glue to hold may be asking a bit much.
