When I posted my Zap artwork, it occurred to me that I've never done a true custom of Zap.
I do have one in the to-do pile, but it's not done obviously. In 40 years of Joe collecting, and let's say 25 as an adult customizer, I have I never made a Zap. Multiple Hawks, Baronesses, and Scarletts. All of the other OG13 characters. But no Zap. Maybe it's because it was one of the first figures I "corrected" back in the early 80's by drawing on a black mustache to make it comic book accurate? That might have been the first customizing I did, though. By no means a true custom, but a first step. Maybe it's because once that mustache was added, Zap was perfect and didn't need to be revisited. For me, Zap is my unmade custom. What are the customs that you've never made, and why? And I'm not talking about the ones you have no interest in making; that's a different animal altogether. I don't care for many of the later Cobra troop builders, so there's no interest in taking them on. What's the figure you've intended to make, but still haven't? |

I’ve got a few WIPs that I keep going back and forth on. I recently decided to give Colonel Courage the green light, but my potential Pathfinder still sits.

I notice I do something like this. Or used to, I guess. I used to collect parts for custom ideas and then never get to actually making the custom. And ones I do start on never get completely finished. It's a lack of time and the fact that I other things I'd rather do with the little time I do have.

I will have WIPs sitting for years, waiting for me to find time/motivation. Sometimes, I just end up creating more WIPs instead of completing any, lol. Admittedly, that time is drawing close to an end. As my parts dry up and my paints threaten to follow, I?ve been thinking of hanging up my brushes on my own terms before they hang up on me (eye sight/hands/parts/paint). I?ve set my sights on finishing up in 2023 and then taking a long, hard look at what else I might do with my time, instead. I may be going back to school…

Sgt. Slaughter. It's a little annoying to see two competing 6" versions of the figure but no (recent or reasonably priced) options in 1/18 without having to go the custom route. I actually bought a bunch of custom-cast parts a few years ago to try to put one together, but didn't have the patience to go thru with it (or the nerve to risk ruining the parts). At this rate I'm probably going to just paint up a head/hat and pop it on an MTF body and call it a day.

I have a bluezooka with a homemade cast of SWB Biggs head, which looks sorta right. The 70s haircut with the football jersey looks good, I just can't figure out where to go from there, and who or what he should be, especially after the Navy rightfully hung up the blueberries. I was thinking USCG but nothing popped out at me.

Man I have so many I haven’t started. I have to toddlers running around. I keep telling myself when they get a little older I’ll have more time. I also have a strict no customizing 6” joes with the exception of getting some casted BATS chest plates.

"I got those BATS chest plates, so I finished a BAT, but now it needs a Sgt. Slaughter to fight!" I started a 12" Fast Draw in 1997, stopped all customizing for about a year, then started again in late '98 with 1:18. One day I'll get back to it. |

I like customizing 6 inch. To me 4? are way more difficult to do. To answer the OP question: 4? grid iron 6? darklon.

Thanks for the unintentional motivation, OP! Pathfinder is done!
