This is just a crying out loud thought.
I arrived here around a year now trying to find out what I have missed in the last...30 years? XD I learnt a little bit, got some "new" joes for my collection and start to reanimate my old o-ring ones. Even got some marauder guys. Now I want to start customizing and when I see yours two things come to my mind. 1.-Man I like how does 6" look like, but for some inner reason I would try to stay in 3.75" with the customs. 2.- Is not easy to find figures in this scale (at least in Spain) and I hate you a little bit with your sights :P I know I would have to buy online but with the shipping costs that makes it a little bit more expensive. Nevertheless Im starting to think about what would my first customizing and will come back with tons of questions for you, guys |

Whatever you come up with I'd love to see! Just remember to thin your paints and make sure to seal the paint down with some varnish or clear coat. ^-^

I like to use a clear acrylic sealer. You can get it cheap as its sold as Floor Varnish in most stores. Pledge brand is the usual go to in the miniature painting community. This stuff is meant to hold up to being walked on so it holds up extremely well. Its also great for making paint washes with, a drop of black ink, drop of dish detergent, and some acrylic floor varnish make fantastic paint washes for detailing figures.
It used to be called Pledge Floor varnish with Future Shine, Its currently called Pledge Revive It Floor Gloss. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pledge-Re...27-oz/15136693 If they don't carry pledge in your area look for any clear Acrylic varnish, you want acrylic as that's what most plastic paints for figure and miniature painting use so there's no weird reactions. It can also be removed with any acrylic paint stripper if you ever need to. If you find its too glossy after using it, you can use a clear spray Dullcoat product on it to remove the shine. I used to use Testors Dullcoat spray lacquer. Heres a youtube vid about using the acrylic floor polish in painting and wash making. It also includes names for the product in other countries below the vid: Last edited by sisco; 12-28-2022 at 05:49 AM.. |

I think it?s rad you?re stepping into this level of customizing. You will get different opinions for customizing and what?s considered customizing.
I don?t use varnish much. Or sealer. It takes away from the realism, at least for my work it does. Since you?re considering putting in the hard work and not kitbashing, Just buy fodder lots. Heads, legs, etc. Saves on shipping and you get a ton of painted or unpainted parts you can prep for paint. Don?t ask us what you should do. Unlock that imagination and then fail 6000 times trying to make it come to life. You?ll Learn 6001 lessons.

I know the path of trial/error and for sure I?ll learn many things the hard way. However when I look at the customs I see around I just love them and thats the path I want to learn! |

My advice would be to start with something manageable, like a basic repaint. Something that doesn't require a huge investment and you can concentrate on just one skill. Get basic brushes, try buying paint of the same color from different companies to see which one you prefer, and get a Dremel tool to help with the #1 enemy of figure customizing; joint rub!
From there you can decide what you'd like to concentrate on next. Hope this helps, HM

You can customize any figure. I played around the World Peacekeepers PTE, chap mei, and lanard figures as well as broken vintage figures. You don't want to open up a GIJOE CC exclusive to start with.
