I seal all of mine, currently with Mr Super Clean UV Flat spray since Dullcote isn't the same anymore, so that helps, but I'd say about 75% of paints I use these days are Reaper due to color selection (I'm too lazy to constantly try to mix colors myself). I haven't seen any issues with durability. I'm not posing them daily or anything, but overall I have no complaints. Reaper is one of the thinner paints but still coats well. But I've really had few issues with other brands like Citadel, Army Painter, and Testors. Tamiya isn't bad but sometimes seems tacky and I'm not a fan of the smell. Vallejo is ok, just kind of thick.

I store a lot of my Customs in bins together and they were tending to get scratched. I would have to repaint/ touch up all the time so I found if I do a base paint job of Spray can enamel then after it drys do any detail with Acrylic ( I use Tamiya currently) then after dry finish with a spray can crystal clear enamel. Since I started doing this no more scratches or paint chipping.

I don't move my figures much so I can't speak as much to durability but based on what I have. Vallejo usually mixes well for me and is too thick coming out of the bottle but if using a wet palette that helps dilute it. Reaper works well for me right out of the bottle I have some P3 and Citadel but mostly specialized metallic and washes. In general washing figures with dawn helps with adherence, multiple thin layers seems to be better than thicker (maybe why Reaper works better for some people) and airbrushing a clear on either matte or gloss depending on what you are going for seems to be a solid recipe. Note I don't like messing with sanding joints for fear of loosening things up. |

I learned from the miniature painting community to seal the paint on the figure with Pledge with Future Shine acrylic floor coating (I think they changed the name to Pledge Floor care Finish) then spray a Testors dull coat over it. The Pledge clear coat is a clear acrylic paint designed to hold up to being walked on for months, its durable as hell and keeps the paint from ever coming off. It dries fast and thin. Great for making paint washes as well. Its usually under 10 bucks for a huge bottle that will last you for years of painting.
With a pledge coating you can usually use cheap apple barrel acrylic paints (thin the thicker paints with some rubbing alcohol first) for most colors other than red or yellow (cheap red and yellow paints typically dont go on evenly) and not worry about wear and tear.
