You hoax pic is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm not even sure I like the mortar with the Cobra Officer. It's pretty big.
The Grunt head looks ok. It reminds me of the ARAH sculpt with the nose and eyes. Something looks off on the skin tone though. Maybe it's the painted mouth. I can't stand that helmet though. The trim around the front and sides is too thick. For "retro" builds, it shouldn't be too hard to take a retro helmet and make a cast of it. Those old helmets are probably the best OG13 helmets to date. The 25th were too small. The retro are too bulky. I'll be grabbing a few Grunts for customs though. Jason |

The newer head and helmet was part of the 25th collection, the box set containing the Cobra Claws Papatrooper. But they didnt use it often until around 2009 with Resolute/ROC and the 30th. The early 25th figures all often had smaller heads like the Toybiz Marvel 3.75 line had at the around the same time or lil before 2007.
the newer helmet isnt that bad, and I do like the added the detail on the mask around the back of the new head but the hairstyle is kinda silly - I don't like the cheap plastic blue. |

Finally found this figure. Swapped out the helmet and weapon from DG Duke, and the head from Resolute Duke. I was hoping to army build a generic greenshirt army, but this was the only Joe head I could find that fit relatively well (need to drill the head a bit to bring it down and reduce the neck). Aside from Marauder heads, what else are you using on this guy?

Well, I bought 3 stalkers, waiting for my grunt to arrive. I am impressed so far. And, as silly as it sounds, I am glad to have stalker's holster on the right hand side. I still don't get why we have so many lefties in the joeverse

No. It's the SDCC MCC CO torso with 50th female CO legs.

All had to be modded to fit the new larger ball joint and bigger neck sculpt. There are other heads I had ready to test if needed, like 25th comic pack Beachhead, Serpentor, Retaliation Roadblock, Deepsix, Tatum Duke, Kwinn. Earlier in this thread 46zone used the 25th Zap/FSS Tan Grunt head with good results. All mybfirst pass Retro concepts found here (waiting to get an authentic Grunt for a possible second pass): https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ml#post5416795 Head needs to medium or bigger than normal, and must be wide to fit and look normal on the neck and body. All will have to dremeled to sit lower, and have work behind and under the chin to accommodate the big neck that it sits on. To test heads without dremeling, you can heat and pop the ball dumbbell out of the neck and sit the testing head loosely on the neck. If it sits too high loose, you can heat the neck to soften and squeeze (as done below for the POC Snake Eyes head): 2021-09-04_01-58-17 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |
