I've used Dullcote for years on my customs but apparently Model Masters is going away and the Dullcote/Glosscote sprays with them? I hadn't heard that Testors was eliminating their Model Master paints, I guess I've been out of the loop on that. But I found what I thought was Testors Dullcote at Hobby Lobby, but it says "clear coat" on the spray lid and when I've used it the figures are turning out way too glossy for what I'm accustomed to. I've tried looking online for Dullcote but it appears to now be in short supply and pretty pricey.
Does anyone have a good alternative?

Mr Hobby Super Clear. It comes in flat, semi and gloss. They also have versions with UV protection.
I can't properly express how amazing this stuff is. It comes out super fine and is almost impossible to mess up. You'll be thanking Testors for discontinuing their spray because they allowed you to find this stuff. Pretty sure you can get it on Amazon.

Interesting. Any visual difference in the UV version?

I just recently discovered that they're discontinuing Model Masters myself, which is a huge bummer. With that said, I've experimented with a couple flat coats both in spray cans and in my airbrush, and by far Mr Hobby Super Clear was my favorite. Firmpulse is definitely right when he says it's almost impossible to mess up.
The only downside is that it's hard to get. In my experience, Amazon rarely has it for a fair price, and I usually have to get most of my cans off eBay. My local Hobby Lobby just recently started carrying it though.

Not that I can see. I was actually shipped the UV version by mistake and didn't realize until after I used it. I've coated 3 Marvel Legends customs and Classified Snake Eyes 00 (after a paint job). They all look the same (insert shrug shoulders emoji).

OOF! You ain't never lied. It was like 14 bucks on Amazon and 12 at my local LCS. I can usually get 1.5 figures out of a can. I typically apply 6 thin coats. But after buying 6 cans ya really start to feel that overhead.

I have used Tamiya and Vallejo clear coats, but not on action figures. I don't think Vallejo has it in a can though, I've only airbrushed it.
Krylon or Rust-oleum both make matte finish coats as well. Has anybody here every used either on joes?

Might have to check Hobby Lobby, that 40% off helps (while they still have it). Was it down the same aisle as the Testors hobby paints? I didn't really look for anything else because I didn't think they had anything else, lol. If you guys didn't know, HL is apparently ending their 40% off one item coupon at the end of this month.
