First off, I do sincerely apologize for the noob question.
That aside, I remember reading somewhere here that acrylic model paint is the best way to go when painting figures. So, I take that advice, buy a few Tamiya jars, and started painting away. The outcome of the vehicle was pretty okay, considering it's the first time I've done something this small (I'd paint hand props and stuff for theater, but those were all 1:1 scale). http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-re-paint.html But when I tried to do weapons, at first, the color outcome was more than I expected, but when I let my figures hold the weapons, the paint came off. So, basically, I have really nice looking weapons (I used Tamiya Flat Black for the grips, stock, etc., and Tamiya Gun Metal for most of the "metal" parts of the gun), that can't be used by my figures. What am I doing wrong? Should I sand the surface first so the paint will grip? If that's the case, then that's a bit of a hassle, as there isn't much square footage to sand, and I probably need a magnifying glass for that. Or is there a primer to be applied first? Or am I using the wrong type of paint, and should use enamel instead? Any and all help would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks in advance! Last edited by zeplin0325; 09-06-2009 at 11:13 PM.. |

I have the same issue with different surfaces.
My only advice is to make sure to wash everything with soap and water first to get off any oils (China is notorious for oiling everything up, must be like a big oil-wrestling-match over there!). Also, Enamel's NEVER FULLY DRY (for the most part) so don't use those to get your effect

Thanks. I'll try that. Basically, all I can do now with the guns I've painted is have them slung for now.

Here are some of the vehicles I've painted (my first re-paint, so be gentle).
