Anybody use blue stuff to make molds? I’m wondering if it would work well to copy a lower torso (modern 4” scale). Seems like green stuff might be too stiff for the actual cast. Do you use millliput? If so I’m not familiar with that, any differences in how to use it as opposed to green stuff?

You can find reviews and tutorials for blue stuff if you search for oyumaru. I can save you some time though, cheap and easy won’t get you the results that I know you’re looking for. I’ve had a few friends try it and they don’t use it at all now. There’s too many issues and variables involved with using oyumaru to make it worth the effort, especially if you are trying to copy a highly detailed part. There is no way to get even pressure when using your hands to force the green stuff together in the oyumaru mold, which will result in loss of detail and distortion of the copy. Add in the time it will take you to clean up all the flash/extra material around the copy that you’ll need to remove, and it becomes work harder for less.

There is no cheap and easy way to copy parts and get quality results. If there was, everybody would have already been doing it years ago. Silicon molds and urethane resins using pressure casting is still the best method to copy parts. It’s a significantly bigger investment of time, money, and materials, but the results will also be significantly bigger too.

On page 10 KR, you started talking about glue. I haven’t tried everything, but I just tried out Loctite plastics and I really like it. You prime the areas with an activator (marker), let dry one minute, then add the tiniest bit of glue, hold it together (using something other than fingers), and voila! This gave a surprisingly strong bond on splicing strap segments together (I had used a bevel cut, but it still wasn’t much surface area. I’m impressed, and will use it again.

I’d be interested in hearing what you feel like your guys watermarks are? Something original you guys do?

I’d also like to hear what type of brushes you guys prefer?

I prefer horse hair brushes. Very very reliable . IMO that is a customizers 2nd greatest weapon.

I got some really inexpensive horsehair brushes when I started customizing- still use, still my favorite brushes.

I'm exploring different paints right now. Love Model Masters, but as it fades away, I'm trying to figure out what I'll replace them with. I know a lot of people love vallejo- I like a lot about them, but the durability isn't great. I've never had to top coat with testors, but feel like it's an absolute necessity with Vallejo. I'm starting to like Citadel a lot.

Citadel paint is pretty good. You’re very right about Vallejo. I don’t like testors at all. I get acrylic loves water but testors and I just don’t get along.

Horse hair brushes rock man. I still have my first brush . Still my

BFS had a customizing live stream. Missed most of it, but seemed like it might be useful. Looks like they like Vallejo and Citadel

I used to use a lot of Citadel but I've recently been buying more Reaper Master Series paints and really like the coverage without the paint being too thick. Testors is fine I just hate the way the bottles eventually seize up on me and I have to run them under hot water and wrench them open. Vallejo has a lot of really bright colors but it always feels a bit tacky to me when it dries.

I do have that issue with Testors as well.

My only real gripe is the inconsistency- some colors are super thick, some are so watery their basically washes. But when they can be tempered, I like ‘em.

I think I’m going to start doing more citadel, but will check out the Reaper series, too. I do not like Tamiya
