Stuntmatty, just checked out your IG site. Really great pictures! I saw you mentioned Evilface too. I remember that site well - he inspired me to do some of the "lazy bastard" or whatever he called his customs where he just swapped body parts. Seeing the time stamps on your pictures from 99/00 really take me back to that time in my life too - being 17/18 and a "secret collector" when GI Joe got re-released.
Your cobra army was insane! Do you still have all of your figures? vehicles? |

Your cobra army was insane! Do you still have all of your figures? vehicles? I sold off our entire collection between early 2002 and the summer of 2003. We had so much stuff that it after 18 months of weekly eBay sales, I had only sold half of the collection. Some guy from Michigan made me a deal for the rest. That’s who drove home with the battleship. Really wish I could learn what became of it. My brother and were secret collectors in those days, too. Funny story about that. I was in college and renting a room with a large crawl space behind my bed in which I stored the collection. One night I had a girlfriend over and while we were one the bed together, a siren from the GI Joe Tonka Steel Brigade truck started randomly going off behind the wall. Girl friend - “What’s that sound?” Me (knowing full well what it was) - “I don’t know, sounds like a police car on the street behind us.” GF - “No, it’s coming from behind the wall.” Me (with red cheeks) - “Oh, that sound. Well I have something to tell you about me...” I then proceeded to unpack the crawl space until I reached the box with the truck to pull the batteries. |

Thank you!
It was definitely larger than the USS Flagg. If I remember correctly the hull, without any of the weapons attached was just under 8 feet long 26 or 28 inches wide and about 18 or 20 inches tall. With the weapons attached and the deck completely fit out, It was over 8 feet long about 32 inches wide and about 40 inches or so tall. I’m currently posting more photos on my joes_brothers Instagram account as it’s the easiest way for me to do it and provide details of each picture along with my other custom work from those days. There was once a plan for me to build a 20 foot long USS Flagg. I’m posting what I have on that project there as well. I’d love to see your USS Flagg lower deck project. I had plans to build a 4 to 5 foot long destroyer to accompany my Super Flagg. One of my three USS Flaggs was being converted for Cobra to sail along side the Cobra battleship and display my custom Cobra F-303 squadron. The 4 to 5 foot long destroyer would be a really great size for a custom ship with a nice little lower deck that had lots of room for dioramas. I think I could come up with a Destroyer custom smaller than the flag. You've got me really curious about this now! Jason |

Just started following you on Instagram to scope out those pictures! My custom lower deck is more just a design phase. I have at least sketched it out over multiple pices of poster board. I have a file full of pics of custom USS Flaggs.
I think I could come up with a Destroyer custom smaller than the flag. You've got me really curious about this now! Jason I would FREAKING love to see what you come up with for a ship!!! The design phase is one of the best parts of the process. For me I was always thinking about what I wanted to see created, how I would play with it, what would/could be kitbashed, I could go on. The way a project lives in your mind as a malleable conception is magical. Please keep me posted with your progress. If there’s any way I could help, just let me know. |

Do you regret selling off the collection? I have a few regrets of things I parted with during my college years for beer money I always find it amazing what a constant GI Joe has been in my life - things come and go but ever since I can remember I have had GI Joe in my life in some shape or form. |

Great story about being outed as a secret collector lol. I remember telling my gf in 2002 about my collection and being into GI Joes - she didn't seem to mind luckily. I do recall speaking with her several years after we broke up in 2008 or so when she was working in retail and she had a very different opinion of GI Joe collectors who were buying up the 25th anniversary stuff lol.
Are you going to get back into collecting? Do you regret selling off the collection? I have a few regrets of things I parted with during my college years for beer money I always find it amazing what a constant GI Joe has been in my life - things come and go but ever since I can remember I have had GI Joe in my life in some shape or form. I’m not getting back into collecting. That chapter in my life is one that I look back on fondly, but it is closed forever. One day I just woke up and the magic of owning it all was gone for me. I didn’t want it to be, and gave it some time before making any decisions about it. But after about a year I still felt the same. So I moved on. Regrets about selling? Well overall no. It was time for me to go in a different direction back then. That said, I do at times regret selling a few of the childhood figures and vehicles that meant a lot to me personally, but I have the memories and that’s enough. I hope someone else is getting as much joy out of them now as I did. I still have lots of photos and an inventory book that we kept. That said, I held onto a copy of the all of the original paperwork that came with the toys such as the catalogs and special offer info. I even have a rejection letter from Hasbro telling me they couldn’t fulfill a mail order for me. The original boxes, filecards and blueprints were sold off, but I kept that stuff. Along with some various trading cards. I also still have every issue from the Marvel run, Special Missions, Yearbooks, etc. Been reading them again with adult eyes. Larry Hama is still the man! Same for me, Joe was a big part of my life and it’s really great to see so many people still celebrating it and that the community has only grown. I get curious from time to time about the Battleship, which is how I found this forum. I watch HCC 788 every week along with Formbx257 and Michael Mercy. Great channels. How about you. Still collecting? Last edited by stuntmatty; 12-14-2019 at 09:17 AM.. |

I am. I sold off all of my new sculpt figs and got into the ARAH stuff a few years ago. I have slowed down though as I think I have everything I want right now so I am in a lull. I am going to wait and see if the GI Joe Evergreen toyline ever gets released and see what toys the new snake eyes movie has to offer.
Part of me hopes that a GI Joe toyline is around when my son gets older but if not I will let him play with the stuff in my collection. Last edited by HitandRun; 12-14-2019 at 12:42 AM.. |

My oldest son was old enough to play with G.I.Joe Valor vs Venom, Spy Troops, and Sigma Six. It was refreshing to know that I had passed down a love of G.I.Joe and Star Wars (younger son played with SW). Between G.I.Joe and Legos, that may have been the catalyst behind my oldest son's decision to become an Engineer in the Army.
Jason Army engineer!!! That is AWESOME and will lead to great things for him. You must be very proud. I’m grateful for his service, please thank him for me. |
