Hey All,
I am truly fascinated by all of the stuff you guys with the 3D printers are creating, and it got me thinking: has anyone re-created hard to get/easily broken parts from Classic Joe items, such as the directional vanes for the Killer Whale? I know that there was a customizer a while back who was selling cast versions of these, but at a small fortune for a set to complete one Whale... I don't know how much it would cost to make the vanes and the vertical stabilizers, but thought it was worth asking to see if someone already had this idea and had made it a reality... If there has been, are they selling these at a decent price. I would just like a displayable Killer Whale, and do not care if it is 100% original... Any help, appreciated! -Todd Shakka85

I sell 3D printed X-19 wing gun actuators on eBay. Sold a few.

There was a person selling 3D printed Whale vane sets; I know I saw him on Facebook, and possibly on here, too.
Are those the ones I made for you a few months back? I had another person on Facebook ask for some too.

Thanks for the responses, and to Capt OG ReadMo for the link! Extremely helpful, as I hadn't looked on ebay yet, hoping to find someone making them here on the 'Tank.

I wouldn't mind if someone 3d printed a Snow Cat/Tiger Cat missile launcher, considering I'm driving myself crazy with my current restoration trying to find one.

I'd love to take a stab at that, but unfortunately I don't have a classic-style Snow Cat turret; the closest I have is the V2 version which is modified to hold a projectile launcher. I think they are very similar, though, with the main difference being the V2 has a plug on top for the missile launcher. Anyone with both the V1 and V2 able to compare how close the two are? I do at least have some of the V1-style missiles from an accessory pack that I could test-fit on the V2 rack.

The X19 landing gear is really weak. I broke 2 then drilled a small hole and ran part of a paper clip through it. But that is some pieces that need stiffer parts

I don't know if this is still a request for anyone out there, but there are a ton of parts available on thingiverse to print, including the entire rear fans of the Whale, vanes and all. I have printed a few out myself and they are of decent quality. They do look slightly different than the originals, but I don't mind that because it keeps people from selling them as originals. Plus, you can get files for a variety of different factions symbols on the vertical vanes, such as Cobra, Dreadnoks, GI Joe, or even Oktober Guard.
I wish there were more parts out there to print, but I do currently have my hands full with the ones that are out there. I'm currently trying to track down some Desert Fox parts. |
