I'm working on a Hit N Run custom. While I've got the figure set up mostly, I haven't ever really painted these figures before. I was wondering if anyone had any online references or tips to painting 25th Joes.
I know the joints are going to be a real issue so any tips on paints and techniques would help. |

Make sure you completely disassemble the joe first, and paint it with a complete coat of Testors model paint. Well atleast that's what I use. Besides that all I can say is good luck.

haha. I'm working on this exact same custom. Got him all painted, just working on the accessories.
I cooked the figures i needed to take apart in the sink with some hot water, then popped him apart. primed the parts (originally i just painted them grey, but that's the wrong thing to do) then painted them with some acrylic paint and then covered it up with some matte finish. It feels a bit sticky, so i may be doing it wrong too. Last edited by atomicpower; 01-18-2008 at 10:46 PM.. |

I've got two duke sashes x'd on his shoulders. doesn't match in the back, but in the front it looks good. And I'm hoping that scarlett's waist is the same size as snake eyes' thighs.

yep base coats work the best. I use light gray. I stay away from testors unless its water base. Generally the oil based stuff won't dry.
Take my word for it, or not |

I'm going to try this custom again at some point. I was really just practicing a couple methods of adding articulation and sculpted forms. But it sort of backed myself into a corner when it comes to painting. I can't take the torso apart out of fear of cracking the collar that stretches over both torso pieces. Also while the clear bands I used for adding waist articulation are really strong, I'm not confident they can withstand heat. Right now the figure is snake eyes torso/arms/lower legs, firefly's thighs/hands, the original HitNRun head (until find the Daniel Craig Golden Compass figure I'm wanting to use), and RAH v4 Snake Eyes hip. When I painted it, I used a unique wash of tea/coffee grounds as a layer between the acryllic and dullcoat. It's great for adding a little weathering. |

I used a full snake eyes body with duke arms and head before i realized that storm shadow's legs would work better as they're unadorned. I've got duke's helmet on him, some bbi goggles, two duke sashes and buzzer's belt, backwards. I'm not sure what to do about the leg portions of the harness, but I've got some sculpey experience and I may add them that way.
I'd love to see the inner articulations you're adding, not to mention the painted figure. He's always been a favorite of mine. |

Yes, Enamels are the bad oil based paints.......Use Acrylic paints. Testors Model Masters, Tamiya, or even the Testors paint sets Wal-mart used to sell, work great. Just make sure it's acrylics. As for details, using a toothpick helps. Just cut the end so it's flat and angled |
