For the last year I've been using testors model master acrylics paints. I really like them, but the place where I buy them from just jacked up their price to $3.75 per bottle. I recently found Tamiya paints for $2.60 per bottle. On the bottle it says it contains isopropanol and glycol. It also warns about ventilation. Should I be worried about using these paints? If I do buy them will I need to wear a mask, or keep a window open when painting?
If you know of any other acrylic paints for an affordable price, and are as good as testors or Tamiya, then let me know! Thanks |

from what the hobby employee relayed to me a majority of the tamiya products are designed to be sprayed on rather than brushed on. he advised me that I would need the ventilation if I went the spray route or intended to paint for hours with a brush. I painted for roughly an hour by brush and didn't notice any issues fwiw.

I use Tamiya for some colors. I actually think the color range of Tamiya is nicer than model masters and the flats are really flat, no gloss to them which I like. The problem I find is that it doesn't stick quite as well as model masters and you definitely have to let it dry for a bit before you put a second coat on by brush because the next coat will take off the first one. They also have to be stirred nearly every time with every color, otherwise the pigment settles to the bottom.
No issue with fumes for me, they actually smell pleasant and mild. |

If your talking about spray paint Tamiya is a million times better in every way than Model Masters. I refuse to ever use model master spray paint. It takes forever to dry it runs easily and dosnt cover well. The little jars of brush paint from both are great. You should always have ventilation when you paint, always.
