I just finished making my custom figure. The problem is he looks to clean...
How do I make the figure look dirty, to make him look like he actually had been in battle? I will try to post pictures of the custom figure. Thank you! |

Hmmm, you can try dry-brushing him with black or dark brown. Would really bring out details and give him a "dirty" look. Awesome custom by the way! Excellent choice in parts, =)

Thanks! I use testors acrylic paint, are those good enough?
Should I use dark tan, raw sienna, or the regular brown? Thanks, I love the ultimate flint torsos, but finding them is hard... |

Also could just give him a brown or black wash, I would water it down as it tends to muddle things too dark right out of the bottle and could ruin a good paint job if not done in light increments.

So I should water down both brown and black paint? Do I mix them together?
Let me know, thanks! |

I would just do one at a time. Not sure if testors has an acrylic wash or not, but I am fairly certain that their model master line has several wash style paints. I usually use Citadel acrylic paints since I have them readily available to me for playing Warhammer 40K.
You can make your own wash using a brown or any other color of the spectrum. Just by putting it on a palate or empty bottle. Add water until you get the consistency you like and then just paint it on, dabbing it here and there with a towel to get the excess paint off the raised areas and letting the wash sink down into the creases. I think with the colors you have used. I would try and make a wash out of the burnt sienna and see what that does. It will give him a red undertone as if he has been around clay dust. Find something else to paint for a test piece.. doesn't have to be a figure.. test out the wash on the piece you newly painted.. when you get the desired effect, use that on your figure. That way it doesnt get ruined. Just tips from an old school painter. Lol Good luck.

The great thing about a wash also... you can use it on his boots, knee pads and other black accessories which wont cover the black completely, but will dirty them up a bit.
