I need help on painting camo's! The few times I did they looked terrible. I use testors model masters acrylic paints, are those good enough? If you also have any camo ideas, then please tell me.
Thank you |

I wish I could say more about this, but the best advice I have seen is to study pictures of camo patterns, usually, you can see how that pattern "works". Digital camos, for me, see fairly easy to fake by using a base coat of a lighter colour, followed by using an old brush and sort of "poking" it on the surface to create the digital dots as well as tiny smears that look like connected pixels. This takes a little practice to determine how much paint to put on the brush. If I ever get my act together, I will put up some pics of the results I get. for a woodland style pattern, sometimes using a pencil to outline the patterns is easiest. Start with a base coat of the lightest color, say green. Then draw in the brown and black patterns. And look at how the colors are layered, generally you want to work light to dark, but if the lighter colors are on top, you may need to mod this.
Oh, and model masters should work. I used both model masters and Tamiya, but that is usually based on the specific shade I want. Sometimes, I find a tamiya color works better, sometimes the model masters. IMHO and observation, Tamiya tends to be "flatter" and less reflective in the matte colors than Model Masters, but that is not 100%. Also, I find that Tamiya dries faster. I have an older friend/mentor who has building models since before my birth, and he contends Tamiya acrylics dry way to fast to work with. I haven't had a problem except with tiny details. If painting lots of something small, like buckles on gear for example, I find the paint dries on the tip of the brush and sort of clumps. Just be aware of this and wipe the brush now and then. I hope this helps, an anonymous stranger on the internet with no pictures of his results is usually where I go for my advice. |

Wow! Thank you so much!! I was considering buying Tamiya paints, but try we're very hard to find. I might just buy them off of eBay.
Ok, so use a light base colour, and darker colours for patterns? If I can show you a camo, could you give me an idea of what paint should be the base, and how I should make my patterns. Thank you |

Lately I've been asking a lot of Gi joe painting questions, as I am still a rookie to all of this.
How do I make a skin tone look dirty. I am making a soldier, and want his arms to look like they have dirt on them, showing he has been in combat. Thank you! |

Hey, I know you
A slight brown wash gets it going, then a dry-brush of sand-color on top of it. This is not only for skin but clothing also. Cheers!
