Hello. I haven't done a Joe diorama in years and i'm planning out some naval, artic, and others. One idea i'm toying with (bad pun) is a top shelf with the flagg and other water crafts and a second shelf underneath it with underwater crafts and divers suspended on fishline showing an underwater battle. Does anyone have any advice on making some kind of wave like creation for the top shelf and any ideas on what to do on the background / backdrop of the underwater shelf. Was considering making some homemade tube at the bottom of the ocean like the "tube worms" from The MASS device. I'd have to do something like paint the back wall or something to give it the look of being underwater. Any thoughts?

You can get pictures for the back of fish tanks, but I think just a plain blue or blue-green (or perhaps graduated from light at the top to dark at the bottom) would look better (less busy) and you can add detail with props in the dio.
Not sure about the waves - I guess you're not going to go translucent and use a sheet of coloured/textured perspex for the water surface as the Flagg etc. will be pretty heavy. It would be good to see the keel from below though. |

Here is one site that gives advice on wave/water making in dios. Just google it and you can find more. |
