"Remember to slice away from your body"
It was 1:30 in the morning and I decided to trim a piece of facemask that I bought over a year ago. Little did I care that it was a toughy to slice. Never push the X-Acto knife too hard. you may just slice something other than the Joe piece. Maybe your top of your thumb. I've had my share of slices with the X-acto and luckily I don't feel the cut until I add alcohol to it. This time I happened to literally shave the top of my thumb right off and it hurt immediately! It was wasn't just a quick band-aid wrap...it was gushing...is that a word? But it was a beautiful sight. Quick Cover up Doctor's re-hash at the cover up.

Did you manage to get the work done on the mask?
When I was much younger I was using an Xacto knife to modify plastic cowboys and Indians for an latin class project. I built most my little display without injuring myself BUT my step mother had made hot dogs for lunch. I found myself both clever and funny when I took a break for lunch and pretended to cut my finger off with the knife. Then, shortly after lunch I cut myself for real and needed 12 stitches. My step mother found that less funny then my poor joke but did enjoy a laugh at my discomfort when I saw my own finger bone in the ER as they cleaned it up.

They cauterized the top because there was nothing to stitch. I still have a full thumb, mostly. And no, I won't show you the laceration.
There may not be much xacto knife using for a bit...

I did the same thing back in my art school days. To this day, my thumb has an odd 'square-ed off' inside corner. I did mine with a utility knife though... much bigger blade than an x-acto.
Yes, those type of cuts bleed like crazy. Don't hurt too bad - since they are so clean and quick - but they throb for a long time... |
