I was super excited, churned out 4 customs last weekend. While getting my figures "geared up" for pics, the paint just rubs off. Never had this issue with Testors. Any ideas on what I can do to salvage these figures instead of repainting them? Also, my Vallejo paints are super thick. I added distilled water like I do with my Testors and the paints would not thin down, they just kind of separated. These are the Vallejo "Model Color" acrylic paints that come in a small, squeezable bottle.

Use game color. It's latex based as opposed to acrylic.

Also add windex as opposed to water. Paint needs a decent solvent to stick.

I use vallejo game color acrylics and have not had any trouble. My primer is gamesworkshop white. Maybe the paints don't go with your primer (?). I also thin my paints a lot with water. Roughly 9parts water to 1 part paint and do lots of coats.
sucks to hear yours came off. I also seal mine with many coats of flat clear spray (gamesworkshop) maybe that helps hold it on (?) |

I use no primer with the Testors. Maybe I have to with the Vallejo.

I also use Vallejo all the time and even without primer never had major problems. Yes they rub off at the joints if you do not handle them correctly. But that happens with almost any type of paint. I've heard of Testors has a good paint that acts almost as the factory one but I don't have that around sadly.

Vallejo, are my favorite paints to use, the application is easy and the color solid with great pigment. I have seen it where people have watered them down too much and coat of paint is too thin. I would suggest trying a sealcoat use a mate finish.
Its hard to say why it happened , could you post a pic? It might help to determine the problem. |

Never had a problem with the paints in the past.never used a primer or sealer so you must have gotten a bad batch or something.

Vallejo paints like to be applied thinner than testors paints, try about a 3:1 ratio of paint to water, vallejo paints are awesome though, the only brand with a decent yellow to brush. Just do some experimenting and see what works best for what your painting. Try a good primer too, tamiya has what is by far the best primer out there(although it is pretty expensive), although it's not normally neccesary
heres a few figures, all painted with vallejo paints(except the light grey stripes are testors), and no chipping issues whatsoever

It is more then just one color I had issues with. The paints looked smooth and covered well, but they literally just rubbed off when I picked them up. I did not dilute them at all with water, because as stated they would not mix with water, they just separated. I'm not bashing the paints, just super disappointed in the durability. I will probably apply another coat and then apply a dull coat. Who makes a good dull coat?
